I was thinking of doing internship at a chill place with not a very reputable name. The problem is I won't be applying to residency until the year after my internship, so I was wondering if it would look bad that I took the easy route for internship when I apply to residency (PGY-2).

thank you for your help

Your letters of reference and in-training exam scores are probably more important than where you did your internship. In addition, since you will be taking at least a year off (ie, not applying for PGY-2 until after residency), what you are doing in those intervening year(s) is also important.

Although doing internship at a "chill" place sounds great, you also want to get a good education especially if you are taking time off. You want to come back to PGY-2 with as solid a background as possible; sometimes the chill places don't offer that.

Besides, its all a moot point until you know where you match at for internship, right?

the OP makes a point...is there a need for a separate "internship" forum? especially with most internships connected to residencies...not too many people likely visiting here i would assume.

This thread inquires about an internship issue not a residency issue, therefore there is no need to move it, IMHO.

In addition this thread is not a pure internship issue it has to do with how the reputation of my internship affects my residency application. Please move this thread back to the General Residency Issue thread.

For what it's worth, the "internship" thread is unavailable at times for me for unbeknownst reasons. this happens quite frequently and I doubt it is specific to me.

the general residency forum has 13X the amount of traffic by volume. and it's misleading, because most people searching or able to give an answer to this question would be looking for it in a General Residency section.

The Internship Forum was specifically requested by SDN users; thus it was created because there are issues which are specific to internship.

It is only viewable if you are registered and logged in; this is to decrease trolls who stop by without registering from starting trouble. Therefore if you are perusing the forums without being logged in, it will not show up in the list.

Most users who frequent the General Residency forum also visit this one. While the numbers of users in the Gen Res forum are higher, there is a larger amount of pre-meds, non US physicians and others there whereas the Internship Forum tends to be populated with actual interns and residents in the US.

Since the OPs question has been answered, and it was moved here by another Admin, there is no reason to move it to the General Residency forum, IMHO, but I will do so.
