Or are they selective? (I live in Ohio).

If so, I just got a little confidence boost, even though I don't think I'll send it in.

I REALLY don't see myself asking my LOR writers to re-evaluate me on their mandatory forms.

I REALLY don't see myself re-taking the two gen. chem. classes that I bombed freshman year. I did really well on the 3rd gen chem class, and got 3 A's in O chem. That should be enough.

I REALLY don't see myself willingly paying $10,000 more per year (compared to any other Osteopathic school)

THANKS FOR ALL INPUT!!!

All in-state residents, and about a quarter of out-of-state residents who submit preliminary applications through AACOMAS, receive secondary applications. About 10 percent of those returning secondaries are interviewed, and about 25 percent of those interviewed are accepted. - The Princeton Review

I don't understand what the problem is. You already sound like you're not interested in completing the secondary and going to MSUCOM anyway. If you have that many negative feelings about it, then don't waste your time and money applying.

Thanks, sugar.

Here's what I'm saying:
"Are my feelings justified in not being interested in this school?"

If anyone out there feels that MSU is a super-sweet school, and it is worth the pain in the @ss to try and go there, I'D LIKE TO HEAR IT!

Also- how you conduct yourself in interviews is VERY important, and your composure is largely dictated on a subconscious level by how confident you are. If I was "hand-picked" to receive a secondary application, I can feel more confident about myself as an applicant EVEN IF I DON'T TRY TO GO TO MSU! See? That kind of info is very valuable to me.

It's not difficult to get a secondary from a DO school. Don't let it go to your head. I'm not a resident of Michigan, GPA of 2.9 and I got a secondary. I didn't complete the secondary because they were too picky about the LOR forms.

So far I've received a secondary from every single school I've applied to (both MD and DO). That's how they make money. Think about it: let's say a DO school gets an average of 2,000 applicants a year (not unrealistic). Each applicant has to pay about $75 when they return the secondary. That's an automatic $150,000 smackers for the school. Not bad. Think about a school like Finch-CMS, that gets approximately 9,000 applications (the secondary costs $95 to process). Yes, that's almost a million dollars a year each application cycle. Trust me, they're not very selective when it comes to sending out secondaries.

Is it worth it to fill out MSUCOM's secondary? For me it was worth about $80,000...for somebody applying from out-of-state it might be worth landing a residency spot in a competitive specialty (because of the concentration of osteopathic residencies in Michigan).
I'm most drawn by the quality of the MSUCOM physicians that I've met (alumni), the laid-back nature of the program and the friendliness of the students I talked to when I visited.

The fact that I've grown up a spartan fan is the sweet icing on an already tasty cake.
