Does the pharmacist need NPI to practice in retail?

it's not to immunize specifically. It's needed to write rx for immunization if state/company allows for it. You can immunize without NPI if done through standing order/rx written by MD

I think you would need one if you are doing MTM billing. As has been mentioned, most retail pharmacists wouldn't need an NPI for the work they are doing.
