Does pre-med look bad...

My transcript says biomedical sciences.

wait so your premed, applying to dental school?

I didn't know biomedical sciences=premed. Huh, new one on me. I guess there's no biomedical sciences in dental school. Darn, I thought I was going to be a "doctor."

My transcript says biomedical sciences.

Pre-med, pre-dent, pre-clown, it doesn't matter.

Finish your dental pre-reqs, take the DAT, apply.

I just coudn't walk past this one. Are you telling us that your degree is actually BS with major in "Pre-med" and if completed a degree you would be a pre-medic ? 😕 If it's biomedical sciences, then it's biomedical sciences and there is no way for schools to know if you were a pre-med, pre-dental or pre-optometry. Believe or not, there is probably someone out there in your major, who's getting a degree with an intention of being a scientist or going into biotech and doesn't even know anything about you equating that major with pre-something.

P.S. I am graduating with BS in biochemistry and physiology and if someone told me I majored in pre-pharm, they'd probably be sorry.

Alright, thanks people. I think Im just getting too paranoid.

Well then you are a pre-dent taking biomedical sciences. No need at all to toss the term "pre-med" around. Unless you feel there is some sort of sexy street-cred that is associated with it. I've never understood why people love using the "pre-x" titles so much. I asked someone the other day what his major was and he said pre-law. Too bad there is no "pre-law" degree at our school. He is a history major.
Anyways don't worry...be happy.

I guess I could say that Im a pre-dent, but there is no pre-dental at my school.

You don't get it. Nobody cares if you are pre-dental, pre-med, or pre-whatever. It is irrelevant that your school does not have a "pre-dent" option, if such an official designation even exists. All pre-dent means is that you have taken all of the dental prereqs and intend to apply to dental school. The only thing the adcoms see is "B.S. in Biomedical Sciences." You could apply to whatever you wanted with a degree like that or call yourself "pre-string theory" and still apply to dental school, just as long as you do the prereqs. Got it?

Yeah, I got it. I just need to stop stressing and catch up of some sleep after this week. Thanks.

To the OP, don't stress man. I know where you are coming from. 90% of the BME kids at my school are premed. Some of the kids at my school are asking me why I'm doing BME when I'm trying to get into dental school. People just assume that when you do BME you are trying to go into med school. At my school, 80% of the BME kids who apply to med school get in. Well you are not the only BME pre-dent, I'm one myself. Good luck dude! 🙂

Thanks, you too.

My major= biomedical sciences as well.
Don't worry about it. 👍

I'm in a "Bio major, pre-med concentration" because basically premed prereqs = predental prereqs. I never thought about them looking at the "premed" title 🙁

They don't... that what I was thinking. Then I realized that that made no sense thanks to a few of the previous posters. The adcoms will see Biology major not pre-med. So technically since you are going into dentistry, you are not "pre-med" but "pre-dent" even though your school doesnt offer "pre-dent".

I'm preorthodontist major. it's kind of ambitious. 😀

Isn't dentistry considered medicine? You don't go to medical school, but you do practice medicine in a way.
