Does prep for the MCAT also prep you for the DAT?

Hello everyone,

I have been preparing for my MCAT since May, I have taken the EK course and for the last two months have been using AAMC practice materials, my test is next week. I was curious since I have prepped for the MCAT would that be enough to take the DAT as well? I figured why not take it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the DAT has less critical thinking on it? Any advice would be great, my number one choice D.O. school is NYCOM I am currently finishing up my undergrad there, entering my senior year in two weeks.

I think what you'll find is that a lot of people on here will tell you something along the lines of, "figure out what you want to do first." Secondly, I think the only real way to know is to take a DAT practice test. If you do well, then obviously the MCAT studying was probably sufficient. Good luck!!

Thank you Rogue, I have always wanted to be a Doctor so I do have my answer, was just curious but hey always good to have a back up. Appreciate the advice!

Honestly just focus on getting into a good mental state for your upcoming MCAT, since being a doctor is your primary goal.
After scores come back - asses your options again.

I'm assuming you are hitting 504+ on practice exams leading up?

The DAT is much easier than the MCAT. DAT is like two college finals stapled together with a difficult visualization and dumb math section. The MCAT is the destroyer of dreams and a reading test.

The DAT becomes hard because while a 50%tile in the MCAT will get you into a DO school, you need around a 90%ile on the DAT to get into Dental. Even then, Dental school is unbelievably hard to get into. Head over to the dental forums to people who are on waitlists without any plans because they topped out on the DAT at 20 (90th%).

Yooo, how was that EK course btw? Do they just content review using the EK content books?
