😳on Topscore, i never read the passages, i just read the question and then search thru the passage for the key word and the answers choices were exactly as they r in the passage. on the 3 tests - i scored 19-22-21 pretty good

well today i took the ACHEIVER exam and the RC section was wayy opposite of topscore. searching didn't help at all. i scored a damn 12.

So on the real DAT, is it seach/destroy stuff or inference types or mix of both ??

both & it was super annoying.
some of the questions are simple & u actually dont even need to read the the passages to get the answer bc its like direct bio questions you probably already know the answer to from bio classes/studyin for DAT--straightforward--this is an easy correct answer
then theres questions obviously based on detail from the passage--this u can search+destroy
then i rmbr i had a few types of questions that i hadnt come across in topscore when practicing, it was like a weird ...i guess what everyone refers to as an inference question? where you actually need to understand what the passage was about & apply it to the question they were asking....
so for inference type of questions, if u dont want to read the WHOLE passage (which i think u should) maybe just search/destroy for key words from the question and then read the particular paragraph u find info in? but that sounds really time consuming.
i think ur best bet would be to read the whole thing...

i also think people make RC harder than it is bc they freak out about TIME/the clock, i really think its an ample amount of time they give us to actually read each passage & be able to answer questions. but i think ppl psych themselves out thinking theyll run out of time...& u wont if u just calmly read the article in full one time through. itll be easier to retain info & answer questions.

Not for me, no. For me, the Search & Destroy method is a nightmare. I much prefer to read the entire passage, and not just "read it", but really READ it. Convince yourself that this passage you're reading is so interesting! Honestly, for me, I find that if I have a good attitude while I'm reading the passage, I retain so much more. It makes sense! Rather than being nervous or hating the experience, you're actively engaging and being interested in the content of the passage. HELLO, comprehension and retention! That's how I got a 23 on RC.

my DAT... it was about 70% easy search and find, 30% tone / semi-tone

i'll be happy if my test is like that, i'm good at fast reading and searching. But the acheiver 70% seems to be tone and "purpose of passage was" "author would agree with which one of the following statements' i hate those

i agree with dentalworks. I believe that on two of the passages, one can use search and destroy because they are usually more detail oriented, while one of the passages is quite abstract in my opinion.
I think the best thing to do is to recognize which one is and then go from there.
good luck
