In my undergrad I was an anthropology major, and at my school we learned methods for ethnographic interviewing and were encouraged to apply those methods to research projects. I did several of these, including one on the effect of HIV on prostitutes in Kenya when I studied abroad there. This project was interesting and I learned a lot, but I never published anything on it (too lazy in my younger days). I took all the pre-med classes post-bac during the past two semesters (plus the MCAT) so I had no time to do lab-type research. Now several applications are asking me about my "research experiences" and I'm not really sure if I should talk about the social science research stuff, or if I should just leave that blank. On one hand I think talking about it may make my application unique, but since I never published I'm wondering if it is credible enough for an app.
Thoughts? 🙄

Hell yes, include that. That research is no less valid then the pipette cleaning that many undergrads claim is research; in fact, I think your research will likely be highly regarded. I don't think that commitees often see that type of thing on applications - dont sell yourself short because your research is not in the biological field. 👍

Definitely include it. All the research I've done was in the social science field, too, and I've always mentioned it in my apps.

of course you should include it. it will make you stand out; in my experience, there are far more bio majors who have done lab research than anthropology majors who have done research in their field. good luck 👍

Likewise. Med schools love us, we're diverse. 😀

I KNOW med schools will want my boobies, but my essay has to be credible enough to get the interview so that I can show them my boobies...

I've worked in three different psychology labs; one in neuroscience where I measured cortisol levels in lab hamsters; I think that the med schools will like it, because EVERY other pre-med student has done some kind of biological research. I wanted to be different, and wound up spending my time on something that I was more interested in.

Not as badly as the socially inept classmates will want them.
