When trying to get into a med school does the college you went to make a big difference? Like let's say I get a 3.9 gpa with good shadowing and some other volunteering at a school A. But at school B I get a 3.6 gpa with the same extra curricular/shadowing.However let's say that school B>A by a decent margin. Which one would get you in. Also you get the same MCAT scores for both schools. Which one would med schools prefer?

I would say it matters to a certain extent. A candidate is definitely measured by much more than his or her GPA, so it's easy to match students from different schools when you look at MCAT scores and ECs.

But if two students were pretty similar, I am fairly sure the Adcom will take the student from the more prestigious university.

I'm going to need more information about said schools.

What was the football record of each? Any head to head matchups?

Agreed

The general consensus is that it probably matters somewhat but to what extent is almost impossible to say since we can't get into adcoms heads and adcoms can vary wildly in their opinions on the issue. It's also hard to say if the higher acceptance rate out of Ivy League schools is really due to preference by medical schools or if it is just that students at those schools are hard-working to begin with and would have gotten in somewhere regardless of their undergrad. My personal opinion is that unless you plan on transferring to a more "prestigious" school there is nothing you can do about it and you'd be better off focusing on doing the best you can at your school to get where you want to be in your career, whether you are at Podunk State U. or Harvard
