Does the edition for Rohan matter?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what's 17 bucks though? in the long scheme of things and how much we've doled out for med school. but the body really hasn't change, probably just the way of presenting it..maybe more crossections and radiology images...and as those are pretty big on our anatomy tests.

When you take into account the length of time b/f we start paying these loans back, and the time value of money (interest accumulating)...The face value of $17 b/c more than just $17 dollars.

To the OP, buy the old edition, it will be just fine. You don't even know if you will prefer that or Netters, etc.

If your school recommends the grant's dissector, you might want to get the 6th edition of Rohen as it cross references the 6th edition of Rohen, and the 3rd (previous) edition of netters.

13th Grant's makes references:
Grant's Atlas, 11th ed.
Netter's Atlas, 3rd ed.
Rohen's Atlas, 6th ed.
Clemente's Atlas, 5th ed.

Rohen is an amazing book by the way. I think every picture deserves to be hung in a museum.

I used a mid 1980s version of Rohan, and it worked just fine. It didn't have radiology integrated like newer versions, but that was OK because Netters and Grays did.

There is a 2002 and a 2006 edition with the latter costing $17 more.

Thanks
It doesn't matter if you're only going to use it for practicals. If you were a PhD student in anatomy, you might need the latest edition since they do rarely change a name here and there. Medical students don't. If you think Rohen's will be used extensively in your course, however, pop for the $17. It's a pain in the backside when one of your classmates says "just look at page 123 in Rohen's" and you're going nuts trying to find the same page in your older edition.

BTW, never study Rohen's in a coffee shop or other public place where normal people will be. The normals get terribly upset if they glance over your shoulder!!!

I have the 2002 edition. I haven't closely compared it with the 2006 edition. The 2006 edition looks close to the 2002 from looking at the 2006 edition in the bookstore.

My copy of Rohen has stayed at home. I will remember to study from it in the hospital cafeteria. Thanks for your reminder.

I have an old edition of Rohen since I got it used. It is awesome. It is virtually the same as the 2007 edition. Mine is missing radiology and some of the pictures are in a different order but otherwise the same. For radiology, I look either at Moore or Netter or google it. It works great though.

I learned this a couple weeks ago studying Rohen at Barnes and Noble. I was even making sure to keep it "clean" (i.e. bones and other non-graphic content.) Some random 10-year old girl snatches Rohen from the table! (It was off to the side.) I quickly took it back from her, explaining that it might be disturbing. Fortunately, she didn't get far enough to be traumatized- or to get me sued for indecency!

Anyway, I don't study Rohen in such places anymore. It was too restrictive to avoid the graphic plates anyway.

i'd have let her look at it...would have taught her not to "snatch" things that aren't hers :meanie:
