ECON 400. Introduction to Statistics and Econometrics. 3 Credits.

Comprehensive introduction to statistics, including descriptive statistics and statistical graphics, probability theory, distributions, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, simple and multiple regression, and use of powerful statistical estimation software. This course includes a substantial introduction to basic econometrics.

I'm an Econ/Bio double major and I'm wondering if this class will suffice for the stats requirement or if I need to take a formal stats class. Also, will it count in my BCPM GPA despite being listed under the econ dept?

My gut says you're fine but call each school to verify. Honestly I didn't know statistics was required these days, but my advice holds true if the world hasn't turned upside down.

There's no way a class that includes "Introduction to Statistics" in its title would not fulfill the requirement of some med schools for a introductory statistics class. You're fine - stop being neurotic.

In regards to the gpa, there’s a odd guide about how to list classes that probably addresses Econ. If you google amcas class designator or something similar you can probably find it (if someone else doesn’t post I here soon)

Related question - is there a list of Med schools that require a math class (Stats, Calc) to be taken in college, and not satisfied through a HS AP class? I believe South Florida does, but haven't seen compiled data for all med schools.

No, you have to look at the websites of the schools you want, or on MSAR. I believe, generally, AP classes don't meed pre-med requirements for most programs.

Some schools will not accept social stats, business stats and such. This needs to be addressed with each school
I took psych stats, which I suppose is technically social stats, along with everyone in my major, many whom got into a large variety of medical school. I find it hard to believe that med schools would reject an applicant's statistics class because it falls under the wrong department. A t-test is a t-test; hypothesis testing is hypothesis testing regardless of what major your stats class counts for. But perhaps I'm wrong.
