Does UCSD have school on Saturday?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UCSD students are required to do three patient interviews during the first quarter that are scheduled by default on saturdays (any or all can be rescheduled for weekdays upon request).

There are no lectures or other required Saturday work besides this.

UCSD's course schedule for first and second years can be viewed here:
http://meded.ucsd.edu/osa/resources/block_schd.html

Note that not all blocks are filled with class each week (for instance an afternoon lab might only meet every third week) and some blocks are review sessions.

first of all, ucla has almost that many hours. second of all, be prepared to almost have no life once you are in med school. its a lot of work. having to do something extra, which is actually fun, on saturday isnt really a big deal cause med school is almost your whole life anyway. you have been warned. but to be honest, its fun times. and although sometimes stressful, if you play it right, you can chill. good luck and enjoy.

Wow. I was about to challenge you on UCLA having as many hours, but I think you might be a better source than me on that. How many does UCLA have a week??

I don't know much about UCSD. But are Saturday classes/exams a common thing with med schools? My school (Pitt) has a summative exam on a Saturday in the spring (actually, the first day of spring break). I'm really bummed about that, but there's not much I can do about it. As far as I know, we don't have any other Saturday classes.

our schedule:
Mon 8-12
Tue-Thurs 10-4:30
Frie 8-12

so 4+4+(3x7)=29. they actually told us we would only have 24 hours per week...but things change i guess.

UCSD's is about 32-36 hours a week, so I guess that is somewhat close.

Can you tell me how you break this down? I'm counting class hours and I'm not getting anywhere close to 32-36

I forget who said it, but somebody did a thread about dymystifying UCSD. He said it was Monday 8-5, Tuesday 8-12, Wed 8-5, Thur 8-12, and fri 8-5. And then there is 3 hours of elective time on Tuesday or Thursday.
