Does undergraduate research in the laboratory for credit count as biology lab credit hours?

What counts as "8 hours of biology with lab" for most schools? In some cases they say this includes "2 hours of lab" which I assumed was based on the idea of two 4-credit courses with a 3-hour lecture component and a 1-hour lab component. However, my undergrad almost always did lab components and lecture components separately. In this case, I had introductory bio with AP credit, then did Evolutionary Biology Lab (2 credits), then ended up peer teaching for that lab under a TA a year later (basically, we assisted the TA in running the lab and marking lab reports). Then I did a lot of upper level biology coursework (20+ credits) with no lab component with one exception I wish to ask about.

Does 2 credit hours of "BIOL 4911 Independent Research I" which I got an A in also count as "lab hours"? I literally spent two years in the laboratory doing undergraduate research tracking fruit fruit fly mutants inoculated on cocaine and other drugs under a microscope and then analyzing their behavioral tracks in MATLAB, but three semesters were paid and one semester was for credit.

Do any schools require more than 2 hours of biology lab hours, and would they ever reject a single 2-credit lab course for biology as insufficient assuming that there were lots and lots of biology lecture credit hours? (I also have a similar question for physics.)

From your description, I would say yes, that would count. If there is a text box for an explanation, explain why it is considered a lab.

I would say no. The required lab hours are from bio 1 and 2 or the equivalent. Independent research can mean a lot of things. It's almost like saying "I speak English, does that count as my English requirement?"
