Does updating your application affect its review?

Hey all,

Just curious on how updating apps work. I finished my first semester of graduate school last week and inputted my grades on AACOMAS and sent in my transcript. All of my secondaries have been turned in already. I’m curious on if updating your application pushes it back in the queue to be reviewed at schools, or if it is unaffected. Anyone have any idea?

If I recall correctly, you can only update transcripts from September 3, 2019 to October 10, 2019 but I'm not sure if that applies to graduate courses.
It is also my understanding that you should not request that transcripts be sent to AACOMAS beforehand; they will not qualify for Academic Update and will need to be resubmitted.

You cannot update your AACOMAS application grades until September 3rd. However, you can send update letters to the schools that accept them (which most do if its a academic update).

No one save for an adcom at the specific school can tell you this.

I updated my grades in AACOMAS after they received my transcript. I called their customer service line and they said everything looks fine and the app will not be held up for any reason. I understand schools could choose to, though. Thanks for the reply!

Yes indeed, back in May. The transcript in question for this discussion was from a new school that I started in May, and AACOMAS did not require the transcript as my first semester was in progress, and just finished last week.

In that case you listed the course as "in progress", I understand now. In that case, I think you may need to notify schools individually about your progress if you think it'll increase your chances at gaining interviews. I'd ask first if they even accept updates and be prepared to send official transcripts to the programs that do.
