I am a 30 year old pre-med. I have decent EC including an award from the President of my university for Outstanding community work. However, my grades are below par (mind you, I still have about two years of classes to take to be where I want to be). Recently, I have been blessed enough to be asked if I would be interested in working at the hospital that I would like to apply to for medical school in the near future. Should I take it? The down side is that I would be giving up a better paying job and a cozy day-shift schedule. I would love the experience, and the hands-on training, but would it really make a difference? Thank you in advance for all your replies.

Have a Peaceful and Prosperous day.

Sure, a hospital job (clinical, specifically, not a US or other non-clinical job) will give you great experience that can help in the application process. However, it is important to note that no amount of clinical experience (no matter how good) can make up for a low GPA or low MCAT score. Those are sort of prereqs for anything else (clinical XP included) to be considered.

It is a clinical position. I guess sacrifices now will pay off later. Thank you for your response.

Any clinical exposure will enhance your application, though I'm hesitant to give you advice w/o knowing the nature of the position you're giving up.

I currently work as a Foreign Liaison/Inside Sales for an engineering firm. Not very content with the work I do. I put out fires, and maintain relationships with international clients. The clinical position is for a nursing assistant, working graveyard. Thank you for your post!
