Does anybody know if your interviewer gets to decide right after your interview whether you are accepted or rejected? or does the committee get back together after interviews and then decide? or something like that??? this is kind of scary, because if its totally up to your interviewer, it's like your life rests in the fate of ONE person. who may or may not like you for some strange reason.

I interviewed at Baylor and there were 3 interviewers... I was told that all the interviewer share their experience with you with the admissions committee, and then they go from there.

I'd like to know the answer to this question especially from schools with one-on-one interviews.

so i may be of some help.. i recently had an interview at case, and i asked one of my interviewers a question very similar to the OP. He said that the interviewers rate the applicant, either superior, average, or denied (rejected). Once the interviewers have decided, and the applicant is not denied at that point, the applicant's stats are plugged into an Excel spreadsheet, and then ranked based on stats, and they begin sending out acceptances based on rank in early December

So at Case, they have the ability to reject you, but they can not just accept you.. that's up to the spreadsheets

i was told that the interviewer writes notes into your file, maybe while he/she sits with you. it could be a good or bad recommendation. but ultimately, the files get reviewed by the admissions committee again (with interviewer's comments, and along with all other interviewed candidates) and they make the ultimate decision.

The final decision is going to be of ad committee/director of admissions, however, without the nod from the interviewer it is unlikely that an acceptance will be forthcoming.

Final decision is made by admission committee. The interviewer provide feedbacks to the admission committee and director of admission. The better your interview is, the more chances to get accepted since your interviewer can make a better case for you and convince the committee that you are a better candidate.

thanks for the input you guys! does anybody know if the same systems work at other schools?

Many schools, University of Minnesota, work on a point system. Specifically, one one gets a certain amount of points for their GPA, DAT scores, and other attributes. For state schools, resid. is adds points. One's interview is scored and added to the point total.
