Does your undergraduate major matter? I am a biomedical engineer, kind of a unique combination to go to dentistry after an engineering degree, but do schools care?

From my personal experience during the interview, I felt the Univ. of Iowa was almost annoyed that I had a engineering degree and going to dental school. Any thoughts?

Vikas,

I'm also a BME major (undergrad and masters) and I thought it actually helped me during the application process. I mean the interviewers really respected the field because it's tougher to get through than most other majors and gives a great biomedical as well as manual dexterity (EE classes) background. It even sets you apart from other applicants because there aren't many of us around. So maybe Iowa was a minority in not liking the major. I've been to a few schools and they were really intrigued with the opportunity to have a biomedical engineer at their school in terms of research and product development. I always implement my BME knowledge into the interviews, so if I were you I would milk it too! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Good luck with everything!
