My school's Prehealth advisor office has a letter of rec service where they group all your letters in a packet and mail them to each dental school, for a fee. $2 per school

Is this a better option then going through addsas? I hear alot of people complain how addsas screws up with their apps and how long they take. This service at my school is pretty efficient and gets letters in 3-5 days upon request, should i use it?

But my pre-health advisor seems to have weird rule, they say they will only mail the letters after you've recieved a secondary from the dental school, does this make sense?? Cause some dental schools don't give out secondaries right? And don't dental schools use the letters to determine whether or not you should even recieve a secondary?

Hey,
My undergrad school used a similiar service called Interfolio and I thought it worked perfect. I just had everyone send there letters there and then when I wanted to send the big packet to AADSAS I did. I found this also to work out good because I added Marquette later in the cycle and found this a much easier way to send my letters and transcripts than going through AADSAS. However, your situation seems different. I don't understand why they would send the letters out only after you have received secondaries because it seems like most schools would want all that info before they even gave you the secondary. I would say, make sure that is the case and if it is don't use it and go through AADSAS.

My school has one. I would recommend using it. I've heard horror stories w/ ADDSAS. You don't have to send the letters to ADDSAS. Have the letter service send your packet of letters to the schools directly. I did this and it worked fine. My letters arrived at the schools 1-2 weeks after I sent them with the letter service. Another good thing about the service at my school is that they keep a copy of the letters for 2 years. ADDSAS just throws them away.

My letter service had the stupid secondary application rule. I just lied and said I had the secondaries. I don't like lying, but most schools don't send out the secondary unless they have the letters. I just had to do what I had to do... 😎

good luck

That's sounds like a good idea, I'll probably do that too. Lying never came across my mind, but that's a good tip, wonder why I didn't come up with that. I mean its pretty weird that they would want to see secondaries before you can send the letters. Rule sucks, but I really don't want to go through addsas.

My Pre-health commitee wanted $200 for the first 5 schools then $20 for each additional school. They had the secondary rule and also that letters would take 3 weeks after you request them to be sent out to schools.

So i requested them even while my ADSAS appl. was being processed.HA!! and it still took them 6 weeks.

Screw them! I wouldn't call it lying. Just make a request for letters to be sent.

wow what school did you go to?

Would you still have used that service over adsas?

the service at my school can send a max of 5 letters to each school you request. I went ahead and sent 5. It cost me $15...not bad at all 🙂

I go to BYU they have a program with interviews and send out the letters at no charge to the students.... it was great....

at UW, we have a file service also. It cost like $30 for the one-time setup, and then I just had my letters sent to it. It cost $5 for each school, and you could send them individually. It worked really well for the letters I received well after my AADSAS had been processed.

ours does it for free and puts in a cover letter and background of the program
