open up the opportunity for discrimination? Because let's face it... no matter how much you like to tell yourself that you aren't prejudiced towards other people, you are always going to have some sort of concscious or subconscious bias towards certain people. And by discrimination here I mean by race, religion and appearance.

They'll see you at your interview anyway.. It's not like your appearance is a secret

They get to know you at the interview though and they'll have a different impression, positive or otherwise.

How could anyone discriminate against that face?

When you interview 150-200 people, a picture of them helps to remember them. As much as we like to believe that we are each unique and memorable, trust me, in the scheme of a whole interview season, about 10% are memorable (in a good way). About the same amount are memorable in a not-so-positive way.

That doesn't deal with the issue of bias when selecting for applicants to interview. A more effective solution would be to have programs take (if they wish of course) pictures of applicants they are interviewing so that people can't be discriminated against during the selection process just because of their appearance.

Do they even use the pictures when selecting who to interview? I would guess that they don't. The only times I've heard the pictures referenced is when people talk about using them when voting after the fact to help refresh everyone's memory on the applicant.

No.
