Long time lurker here.

Texas Resident.
Graduated in 2015 with a sub 3.0 sgpa and cgpa (like 2.3ish). Mostly C's and and 2 D's on my transcript. Been doing a DIY post-bacc to eventually apply someday but so far I'm not doing as good as I hoped. In that I continuously keep making B+ and B's in my classes. Which is good considering I hardly made a B in any of my sciences classes in college but horrible since I'm supposed to be proving myself. Not sure where to go from here. I've taken an additional 12 classes since I've graduated but with only 2 of which have been A's. Not sure if this proves I should move on to another career or not.

Any advice would help.

This is indeed a sign that it's time for a different career. You need to be aceing things, not "beecing" them.

However, some of the newer DO schools may give you some love with a decent MCAT score. But MD is off the table.

Sigh, I guess your are right. Not sure what other career I'll be good at since all of my credits are in the sciences.

@Goro would a SMP help or should I not even bother wasting my money?

Yea.... Thats slowly putting the nail in the coffin. Us sub 3.0 applicants (especially low 2's) MUST get all As or damn near close to it to prove yourself and even then you have to have a good/acceptable MCAT. This post bacc was your hail mary and you underthrew it. I would definitely look else where since there are a ton of great careers out there.

I can't recommend it. Time for Plan B.
Alright thanks anyway. Not sure if I'm going to give up yet.

I appreciate the advice. Think I'm going to keep going though. I haven't taken the MCAT yet and already signed up for classes next semester. I'm at as 2.7 right now and calculated that if I do some retakes in classes I got C's in undergrad, I should be somewhat better off.

Retake classes and get GPA above 3.0.... Score well on the MCAT and pray that new DO schools have mercy on your soul.

Hey I appreciate the advice. I'm not ready to give up just yet since I've already invested so much into it. I'm just going to spend the next 1.5 years working on my gpa and killing the MCAT. Hoping all works out.

Goodluck pal. From experience, if you really want to be a doc you will have to bust your tail and get nothing but As. Then be ready and willing to spend ALOT of money applying super broadly and early. Even if you get 30 rejections and 1 acceptance it will be worth it. #timetoturnup

Retake the C's and D's that are weighing you down and get A's in any new classes. Good luck... I know that you invested a lot into this, but it also is important to be introspective and know when it is time to do something else. Give it one last try but do not dig yourself into a deeper hole of debt/wasted time

Thank you @Frogger27 and @zurc2014 for your advice. It definitely did not fall on deaf ears. Going keep pushing forward giving it all I got. I'm pretty sure I know my biggest problem is and why my grades are at the state they are. I really appreciate y'all taking the time to answer my questions.

P.S. @zurc2014 , could you tell me how you turned things around for yourself? I see you got into UTSW which is like the top of the barrel here in Texas. I'm not aiming that high lol but just wondering how you got there.

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears. I did a 1 year 50 credit post bacc of nearly nothing but As ( wouldn't recommend this cause if I did poorly it would have been a wrap). In my post bacc year I also did acceptable on the MCAT, worked full time as a health care professional, and published a few more papers. I think the fact that I was able to balance all of this (while being a single parent) blew socks off. I also spend an obsessive amount of time structuring my PS. I had to tell a powerful story that they just couldn't blow off. In the end you have to show that you can produce and sell yourself.

Thank you, I'm taking this all in.

This is an incredible account of what can happen when one really wants what they're after. Desire isn't enough. It has to be done. I appreciate what you've accomplished and your willingness to share it with us. Congratulations!
