I'm still waiting for a response from them. I added them to my designations 11/9/2012 and still haven't heard back from them. When did you apply and when did you hear back? Do they do interviews? Do you know the overall status of the admissions process right now? like how many have been accepted and when they stop accepting? Have you been accepted? What's your stats?

Sorry for all the questions.

I have no clue on the numbers of admission or anything in that sort. They do a group interview . I thought it was fair. Then a written essay which they give you20 minutes . Its a simple essay. I applied around october and I heard from then around december.

Anyone going to Dominican College starting this summer?
i got excepted for this trimester starting may 31. but i live in brooklyn NY and i still trying to figure out how to commute each weekend.

"excepted"? so you got rejected? no j/k I know what you meant but it's funny how those words mean the opposite.

when did you apply and when did you hear back?

It's coming on 3 whole months now since I applied in early November and I've still heard no word at all from the school, not even an acknowledgment that they've received my application. I think I should call them.

i interviewed jan 22 and hear back feb 1

For those of you who interviewed and visited the program, how was it? Was there anything that you particularly liked or didn't like about Dominican?

I've been accepted, but before I make a final decision I'm hoping to hear back from other interviews.

I just heard from Stony Brook, which ties for my top choice with Upstate; Stony Brook says "Yes"! so I will decline my acceptance to Dominican.

I loved the campus, and I like the idea of weekend classes, but I don't like that there was no opportunity to speak to current students. Are there any current students of Dominican out there willing to tell me more about how you like the program.

Should I be worried that it's been exactly 12 weeks since I added them to my designations and I've still heard no word from them? not even to say that they've received my application?

I think you should call them, I added them to PTCAS about 2 weeks ago and I received an invitation for an interview via email yesterday.

OK. The Physical Therapist I work with is also pursuing her DPT and she said that she heard negative things about this school, like how they are really lax with the course work and material and how a low percentage of students pass the board exam. I don't know. The school is really affordable and close to home. Oh man, so is that the catch? Is it cheap because of it's bad reputation?

Here's a link to the ultimate pass rates of the programs in NY state:

Looks like for Dominican they only had 38 test takers represented. 36 of them ultimately passed for a rate of 94.74%. Which sucks for those two people...

But it's hard to know what weight to give that (for 36 people the education was apparently sufficient). Other schools in NY state had lower pass rates. Here's the breakout, ordered by ascending pass rate.

Ultimate Pass Rate 2008 - 2010 : School Name : # of Graduates Taking Exam : Not Passing

82.14 : Mercy College : 56 : 10
87.5 : Utica College : 72 : 9
88.46 : College of Staten Island - The Graduate Center(Cuny) : 52 : 6
91.1 : Touro College : 146 : 13
92.31 : D'youville College : 65 : 5
94.68 : New York Institute of Technology : 94 : 5
94.74 : Dominican College of Blauvelt : 38 : 2
95.08 : New York Medical College : 61 : 3
96.15 : Clarkson University : 26 : 1
96.81 : Stony Brook University : 94 : 3
97.26 : The Sage Colleges : 73 : 2

I wish those numbers matched the ones on the school's website. For example, this was taken from Downstate's website:

http://www.downstate.edu/CHRP/pt/profession.html

Student Outcomes for the Most Recent Three Years of Graduates (Classes of 2009, 2010, 2011)

Graduation rate: 91%

Licensure examination pass rate: 88.46%

Employment rate: 100%

I don't know if the difference is because one statistic is from 2008-2010 and one is from 2009-2011. One year shouldn't decrease the stats like that especially if the other years are 100%.

I've found that the numbers on specific school's website and the NPTE website differ sometimes.

Hey anyone that got an interview and/or acceptance to this school willing to share their stats? I'll contact the school ASAP but I'm just curious why I never got a response and I'm thinking it could be my stats.

Oh and I think the reason why the PT thought the school was lax with it's course work/material is because it's a weekend program where you do 80% self study. So the school is not bad if you don't mind 80% self study.

I am trying to get in contact with the school but no one is picking up. Is it because it is a weekend program, are they only available to talk on the weekends?

So I got in contact with someone in the pt dept and they told me that they never got my references from ptcas. That didn't make sense because other schools got it. I explained this to her and she said she would recheck with ptcas and get back to me. This is stupid. If they were missing anything from me why didn't they say anything to me. They didn't even let me know that they received my application. And I sent the application 3 months ago. I don't get it. That's the story.

I just declined my interview to Dominican. I live all the way on the west coast and cost of travel is just too ridiculous for me.

I am going to be attending Dominican starting may 31. Is any one else joining me at this time. And also how do u intend to get there and would u be going back and fourth from the school or staying close by. I am located I Brooklyn any one close to me.

I am so very confused why this school has not responded to me a week after i called them about not getting a response for 3 months. If i get a rejection letter from them i am going to want to know why. They are being very quiet to me. It is really weird. I might have to drive up there. It is less than an hour away.

Good news today. I was invited for an interview at one of my top schools. Dominican College of Blauvalt. The interview is this Tuesday though and it's a group interview. They only let me know last minute. The sort of messed up thing is that I don't think I would have gotten the interview had I not called them about my status. I applied to this school back in Early November (November 9th) and they never responded to me with anything. I called a couple weeks ago about it and they said that there was an issue with the LORs but I assured them that everything was okay. They said they'd call me back but 2 weeks went by and I heard nothing. I called them back today and left a message and they called me back today offering me an interview. Others on this website applied and recieved an interview within 2 weeks of applying so I knew something was wrong and that I should have heard back sooner. It's kind of messed up that they never contacted me about the issue they had with my LOR, makes me wonder if they just made that up to have a reason for not responding to my application for months. It's even worse that I had to call them AGAIN to get things rolling. If this is how it is with other schools, maybe I shouldn't be just sitting here waiting for them to reply to me, maybe I should be contacting them.

Anyway I'm happy I got the interview at Dominican but another issue arose, the interview is at 3PM and I have an exam in my biology 2 class that day at 6pm. The faculty member that offered me the interview told me that the interview may run up through 5pm. From what I remember, it takes less than an hour to drive there from where I'm at and about where my school is where I'm taking the Biology exam. I'm going to try to make it work some how because they told me that this is the last session of interviews, they have one other one coming up but it's only if seats are not filled from this one so I have to go to this one. The Biology class itself runs from 6 to 8:45pm. I probably won't need the entire class period to do the exam so I can probably come to class a little late and if I need more time I think the professor will be willing to give me more time extending after 8:45. I will email and ask him. I hope everything works out I need to make this interview but have this exam on the same day close to the same time. I'll probably be able to stay longer for the exam if I need to.

Hey I have been accepted to the program, and interview was pretty laid back. You will be divided into two groups, one group will go to group interview and other will work on essay. essay is basically opinion based , they will show u 2 mins long video and you have to write abt it. Interview questions were just basic such as why weekend program? how can u handle stressful situations? etc.. you won't get to talk to current students tho, which i wish we has an opportunity to do so.

Thank you for the helpful info, I've heard mixed reviews about the program with passing rates and faculty. Do you know why the school was on probation, no graduating class for 2013 and 2014?

I have no idea about probation , but I am unable to decide weather I should attend or not . I think CAPTE would be the one who can answer 2013-14 passing rate question. But school defiantly doesn't have good reviews. I am waiting on hearing from other schools so let's hope for positive reply from other schools

Ok, I will contact CAPTE, Did you get a good vibe from the faculty who interviewed you? Good Luck with the other schools.

Well there were only two proffesor, and they both were nice. Unfortunately I don't remember names. Thank you !!

Did you apply to Mercy?
Nope , I have applied to sacred heart, Scranton , university of science , Thomas Jefferson , d'youville , Dominican ,Duquesne

NICE! well good luck again...

I had a few interviews no acceptances yet.

I contacted CAPTE and this is what they wrote back.
Dominican College did have a probationary accreditation status from 10/09 – 04/11. The program elected to not admit students during the probationary accreditation period and therefore did not have any graduates in 2013 and 2014. In April 2011 accreditation was restored and has been maintained by the program. It is not CAPTE’s policy to release information regarding the reasons for prior accreditation statuses. I suggest you contact the program and they may elect to disclose information to you. You also could request information from the program regarding pass rates and confirm that information on the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy website (https://www.fsbpt.org/FreeResources/NPTEPassRateReports.aspx).

I got accepted to Dominican college. I would like to talk to current students to know your thoughts about the program? Or if anyone else got accepted too?

I suggest you look over in the big DPT Facebook group. And no need to post the same exact question on 3 different threads.

OT and PT programs at Dominican College are good, but mostly for self motivated quick learners. Looch, may I ask, did you get an invatation for interview from PT Department directly or through PTCAS? When?

How did your interview go? I have mine on Feb 26th!

Hi! I'm currently taking the prerequisites for Dominican's OT program and I'm about to schedule my onsite essay/interview. Is there a preference as to when I should take it? And is there a specific type of attire that should be worn?
