This isn't completely clear to me in the announcement at the top of the page...If I donate $19 to be a bronze donor, is that just a one-time fee for a donor status that lasts a year, or does it mean that it will automatically deduct $19 from my credit card every year?

One time IIRC

Yes, the donation is a one-time fee. After the year mark (or two-year mark if you donate for Gold status) your donor status will expire, and you will have to manually make another donation to renew your donor status.

The question should be: "If I donate and become a gold member, do I automatically get accepted to a medical school?" :meanie:

Ignoring the obvious sarcasm, many users donate post-acceptance as a thanks to SDN for helping them in their application preparation/process. 🙂
I would be that person. 😀
Regardless of acceptance, SDN has been a great help ever since I've started my track.
Better than my Pre-med advisor. 😴

What do the donations go towards

Trial and error? Although I doubt the fees will be recurring.

Uh, most people don't want to go "trial and error" in trying to figure out whether a credit card charge will be recurrent or not.
