I took the DAT today. I am not fully saticified with my score, but I am happy about finishing DAT. It was my 2nd time.
Last Year ----Today
PAT 21 -------PAT 22
QR 18🙁 ------QR 22😎
RC 15😱 ------RC 18😛
Biology 23 ----Biology 20
G-Chem 21----G-Chem 19 😡
O-Chem 23----O-Chem 22
TS 22---------TS 20
AA 20---------AA 20
Since I got 15 on RC last year, my goal was improving QR and RC and keeping Science score. But I got lower score on science...🙁
My GPAs are...
Overall: 3.54
Science: 3.54
but, I was a transferer from a community college, so my overall GPA only at 4 year University is 3.28 with science GPA 3.0. (I had a steady improvement in overall GPAs though)
Do you guys think my chance to getting into dental school are increase?
I applied 14 schools last year and I had an interview,but didn't get in.😛
Here is breakdown
Bio
I read over Kaplan one time, but it is not enough at all!!! Many detail concepts are not covered. DAT destroyer helped me to build a lot of concepts. Although the destroyer has a lot of information, it is not organized as whole. I also studied Cliff AP Biology. I recommend studying the Cliff first, and then studying Destroyer. I also used Wikipedia and Kaplan MCAT biology review for reference.
Biology was very hard compare to last year. There were only a few direct fact questions. For many problems, I had to apply concepts and made the best choice base on what I know. I couldn't even understand 3~4 questions.😡
G Chem
I read Kaplan review three times. Destroyer helped me to understand the concepts more clearly and how to solve problems. You can spend a lot of time to understand/memorize important concepts.
I thought real DAT was pretty easy, but turned out it was not.
I didn't have time to check marked questions (4~5) because I spent too much time on Biology. 🙁
O Chem
I read Kaplan review three time. I made flash card from Kaplan review and Destroyer. Not every reaction will be on the test, but I think more you know them, better chance to get high score. Please use Road map from Destroyer as base and expand other reactions. I don't have much to say for this section because I just study and keep memorize, didn't use any special strategy.
Real one was straight forward!
PAT
I just solved problem on Top score, and Achiever and scored moderate score (20~24) except Achiever (too hard).
In real test, angle and folding was easier than I thought since I could figure out 6~7 angle questions just by looking. Hole punching was a little easier than Achiever but harder than Topscore. Other sections were similar to Topscore.
QR
I read Kaplan review and solved problems in Destroyer and Kaplan GRE math.
During the test:
Skip it if you can't solve at first trial.
Keep you speed at miximum on every questions.
Forget about every other sections you've done. (last year I was so scared of getting low score in RC section, so I couldn't concentrate.)
RC
I am a slow reader and not good at English. Last year, I made my own strategy:
Reading 1st and last paragraph and making paragraph map (writing down) by skimming in 5 minutes / solve the problem in 15 minutes. 20minutes per paragraph. It worked on most of practice tests. But, the testing center provide me only marker and board(I didn't know 😱). I made paragraph map, but marker was too thick. I couldn't recognize my writing..
So this year I used search and destroy method. I was freaked out during the test AGAIN because I planned to give up all tone questions and there were 7 tone questions on first passage!!! I wanted to give up. But, other 2 passges have 3~4 tone questions. 18 on RC is not a great score at all, but I can apply Temple and Case western.
