Well took my dat today...

I never understood all the hype on piano until I took it myself.. OMG!
the passage itself was a nice read but the questions were kinda unfair.
This passage deals with a lot of inference and nothing is really spelled out for you like the other passages.. all in all I understand why people do so bad.

Bio: I was bombarded with diagrams! Never in my life have I seen so many diagrams around 6 - 7 dont ask which ones.. haha

Chem: really straight forward and easy..

Ochem: 4 NMRs not cool.. when people were saying this is mostly reactions I was happy but on my test it was mostly concept based with like 2 reactions at most.

RC: The Lovely piano.. god I hate my life.. I never got the hype of this stupid passage until i took it..

QR: So i studied my butt off after everyone was saying word problems. Well they didn't mention that geometry packed QR was floating around too.. Half word problems half geometry = failure for me.

all in all I am happy that my sciences went up and sad that the 2 parts of the test that I look forward to killed me... 👎

We will see what happens this cycle..

PS.. thanks to everyone that helped me.. you guys are truly a great resource and I appreciate everything everyone has done for me.. you know who you are!

These are good scores. Can you tell us what was the percentile for the RC?

Yeah... I don't think these scores are so bad either.. look at it this way.. there are plenty more people who did worse on those two sections (RC and QR).

Don't be so hard on yourself. Your overall scores will get you in somewhere I'm sure.

These are good scores. Can you tell us what was the percentile for the RC?

yeah valigator it was bad.. on all three Topscore's I had 22s for RC

but on the piano passage I got RC 17 (29.5%)
I couldn't believe my eyes.. it really disappointed me since if I would have gotten my average my AA would have been a 20.. sigh...

I doubt adcoms will care what rc passage he had since they have no way of knowing it was the "piano"...

however, a 17 is at/above any cutoffs I know of... and most schools could care less about qr... so, with a 19AA, I think you'll be straight.

I am a URM but I wanted my DAT to be at least an AA of 20 because my gpa is not so high at 3.2 being a biochem major killed my gpa. It wasn't the fact that it was hard (which it was) it was that it was extremely boring.. haha

well.. biochem is impressive. Plus, I'm sure there is more to your story to make you a desirable candidate. You have decent scores so it's not as if you have to completely rely on you GPA to get somewhere.. Don't worry. You deserve a pat on your back for dealing with that piano passage. Keep your head up. I'm sure you'll be in dental school soon enough 😉

I am a Biochem major as well. I know how tough the major is. ADcoms recognize that. [I spoke about this with an admission comittee member for dental school because I was worried about couple of my grades]. He told me not to worry because I am a Biochem major. 😀

honestly I had about 5 easy calculations out of the total 40.. not to scare you..

Hardly any algebra which I am extremely good at. most were like I said graphical type geometry problems which threw me off.. For example I cannot give you the specifics but in one problem, it was drawn on a graph and stated what was the total area.. Sounds easy until you realize there were 3 triangles and 2 squares you had to determine the widths and lengths of each size..

stuff like this which eat up your time..

Really? At that rate they may as well add two points to the OP's AA because he is an URM.

Maybe everyone on SDN should just sign a petition to have 2 points added to the RC score if you got the piano passage....
