I have been reading SDN for a while. I just took my DATs the past friday
and scores were
PAT16
QR 19
RC 20
Bio19
GC 25
OC 20
AA 21
SA 21

I know my PAT is very low and I want to apply to UCSF..and their web site actually says that they want everything to be above 17, any thoughts? would talking to the admissions office help? or is a retake the best way.

Thank you

honestly, i think this is a tough call. I would say get in touch with them, get to know someone and see what they say. You have very competitive scores and it would suck if you had to retake.

what did you use to study? thats a killer gchem score!

Did you use CDP?

Normally, I would never say retake, but...

UCSF said on their website they want a 17 on TS, AA, and PAT. Call and ask them (or email them). This is the only way to know. I don't think anyone here knows how strict they are about this.

Yeah... if it says that then you are probably going to have to retake... although they may make an exception for you since you have good scores other than that. But on the other hand, some schools think PAT is really important. Call.

If they say retake it, purchase Crack DAT PAT. I got a 17 and bumped it up to a 23 after using that program. It really helped.

Also, look up "My wicked sick PAT tutorial" and get some tips on there.

Best of luck.

I really hate it when people who score 91st percentile post and ask " Do I need to retake?". I almost feel insulted.

I do understand you have a different situation though with the 16 PAT thing. Like everyone else has said, call the school directly. good luck, and hopefully, you won't have to retake.

Thank you so much guys.

I only used Kaplan to study for the exam and apparently the 20-22's that I was getting on the PAT was just too easy. The exam was much much harder than kaplan's practice exams. I read that Crack DAT PAT is good. I am going to give that a try if I end up taking it again. I am going to give ucsf a call and see. I was actually surprised by my math score...exam wasn't hard at all and I am an engineer🙁 shame

Haha I hear you on that, but the cut offs are extremely strict. The OP is just in a bad situation

You're science and academic scores are excellent, but you're PAT score could hold you back. Many schools prefer 18 or higher on all sections. Call the school to be on the safe side.

I might take it again. I have some time...🙁 So If I do CDP, I would be game?! What else do people suggest? I talked to my ad visor and he said to be on the safe side take it again, I am still going to give the schools a call.

Thank you once again.

Last time, I only used Kaplan and now I am out of practice exams. How is topscore and for those of you teaching Kaplan...can I teach Kaplan? what is their "cut off"? That would be a great way to keep up with the stuff.

Can someone please explain to me what
each of the sections are? for example whats PAT, etc. I'm new to this and i need to know how to get started studying?

PAT - perceptual ability
TS - total science
AA - academic average
OC - organic chemistry
BIO - Biological sciences
QR - quantitative reasoning
GC - general chemistry

There are approximately 1 millions threads detailing how to study for the DAT - dental admission test

Great scores all around, it's almost crazy tothink of retaking with ur scores but a selects few schools care about pat and if ur heartset on a single specific school it's worth looking into since it's only February u have plenty of time to still be an early applicant even with a retake, do u have any extra curics or classes like sculpture which show manual dexterity ? It might be helpful good luck!

Pulling out an old old thread.

Retaking it on tuesday.

I didn't get either the piano or the ethics passage last time, so does this mean I am going to get it now? is it true that there are only 3 versions of the exam?

Wish me luck

🙂

Good luck. How have you been doing on practice PAT sections? Did you purchase CDP? Also, don't slack off on your other sections b/c you don't want to end up getting like a 23 on PAT and then a 16 on OC or something. As for the number of versions of the DAT, I don't know the answer...where did you hear there were only 3 versions? I'm sure there are many more than that since I've seen so many threads with different RC passages for example.

Thank you

Yes, I got CDP...started off with 18 now on the last 3 I have gotten 22's. As for materials. I only used kaplan the first time around. Now, I have finished Destroyer (which was hard on OC and GC), Topscore (average 20's and I felt like GC on topscore is harder), Archiever (average 18-19) and Barrons.

Wow good job. You were able to improve on almost all sections and improved your AA from a 21 to a 23. Most people would be happy to get a 21, so great job!

Great scores. I'm basically on the same boat. What did you do differently this time to prepare for the QR and RC?

Those are some amazing scores you already had a great score to begin with but now you've gone up significantly even more......congrats! what did you use this time around and what did u find the most helpful?.......how would you say crack dat pat is in comparison to the real exam?......congrats again
