Ok, so its all over and I feel better that I dont have to look at this stuff (hopefully ever again), but I have a few mixed feelings. I realize many of you skew the charts when it comes to scoring high on this exam, but I am not sure how to interpret my scores. I applied to UDM, UIC, Southern IL (IL resident), NOVA, Indiana, Boston, NYU, UNLV, and Marquette.

I realize these arent "stellar" but I just need one acceptance. Any thoughts? I studied for about 4 weeks while taking graduate courses.

Let me know what you think

I would say you are done with the DAT

As always...there are a million factors that decide whether your DAT is what you need. Depending on your GPA and science GPA, if 3.4 GPA, ~3.1 science GPA, you should be very competitive at your in-state school with an early interview. IF you have above a 3.5 and early interview your prolly a shoe in. If you have a less than a 3.4 its gonna be close.

can you share your experience of the test, section by section and how they compared to your study material

Jake its funny you say that because:

Science: 3.4

Overall: 3.1

Here is what I have done to study in my previous attempts (this last time was my third time taking the DAT)....most people on here studied for about 2-3 months...I studied for 4-7 weeks and as you can see, if I put in more time my score would be higher. This is my second cycle and if I was smart I would have studied this summer (although I was waitlisted at NYU and wasnt sure what was going to happen), but instead I worked and took Biochemistry. Starting in September, I enrolled in an MS program and from that point on, I studied for the DAT and studied for classes (which actually helped because I am in Cell Bio and Histology). Anyway, here is what I did:

1) Obviously Kaplan Blue Book. As a side note make sure to try to get someone's lesson book (its the book they get if you take the class and its a smaller version of the huge kaplan book). The lesson book is really great for when you need to learn a lot in a small amount of time (like I did)

2) Look at your old science notes/books. If anyone has Campbell Biology, use it as a reference...it really helped when I got stuck on something in Kaplan.

3) Buy a small Schaum's Outline for whatever science you need the most help in (or buy all three science books...I got mine for $8.00 each)

4) Memorize everything you can. Use time wisely. Focus.

5) For RC, try to get some JAMA articles or try reading some advanced science articles. A lot of people say practice helps, which it does, but for this section I feel that if you read a lot you will keep getting better at finding the main ideas and learning details. On the DAT this section is all about time. The questions arent hard, it just takes time to find the answers. Oh and it also helped that I knew alot about the content in the article (I took Anatomy/Physiology I and II, pharmacology, micro, etc).

5) If you study for 2-3 months out of kaplan, and whatever other resources you can get your hands on in and do it in a proper manner (ie 4-5 hours per day, focused studying) you WILL DO WELL. Period. I should have followed this advice, but hopefully this will be my last DAT.

Any other questions pm me, but honestly, there are many others on this board who got 20+, they are the ones to go to with questions...I really dont think I stand out with an 18 AA.

Good job. Your science gpa is good although your overal gpa is a bit low. Perhaps the one thing that is really working against you is time: if you are planning on applying this cycle, and you are not really late in getting things in, then there are several thousand applications ahead of you. Combined with your DAT scores I think you have a good chance of gaining several interviews.

I applied July 1 to AADSAS....interview at Indiana on November 5th/6th.

Waitlisted last cycle at NYU after being interviewed.

Previous DAT was 17/16/14 (AA/TS/PAT), so I am not sure what will happen after scores go to schools in approximately 2 weeks...I am assuming I will hear more after Winter Break at most schools seeing how close it is to end of semester.

Crossing my fingers

fax ur scores in...aadsas is backup due to their move

I believe the ADA (in Chicago) is separate from the ADEA (in Washington D.C.), although as a precaution I am still going to fax my scores in. Thanks

the schools got my official scores 2 weeks after i took the test. ADA is pretty fast it seems.
