First off, I'd like to thank everyone for all their useful information. It was definitely of huge assistance. I have a pretty ghetto gpa, barely hanging onto a 3.0, with a science of 2.9. So, I already have the odds stacked against me. Anyways, here were my scores:
AA: 21
TS: 20
BIO: 19
CHEM: 20
ORGO: 21
QR: 20
RC: 24
PAT: 18
BIO: There werent too many indepth questions here. I thought the Kaplan book did a pretty good job. There were only about 2 questions that I had absolutely no clue and had to just guess and move on. But overall, it seemed like it was pretty well rounded. There were a few classification questions, some evolution, and genetics. Just know those chapters and you should be fine. The questions arent hard, so if youve got those chapters nailed, then it wont be a problem. All the other body systems are covered pretty evenly. If you have questions, PM me and I can go into more detail. Out of the 40 questions, I would say that I got 30-32 correct, so that may help gage how many you need to get right to get your desired score. On topscore, I got 16, 17, 16.
CHEM: The TS DAT is definitely more time consuming that the real one. You can fly through this section. Solutions and solubility were 2 areas that I am weak in, which came up a couple times on the test. Know that section. Also, know oxidation/reduction. Again, specifics, PM me. Out of the 30 questions, I would guess that I got about 22 right. On topscore, I got 19, 19, 17.
ORGO: I thought this was much easier than Topscore. I saw people scores shooting up on the real DAT and my case was no different. Know SN1/2, go through the basic reactions, aromatic compounds, and isomers. Also a couple questions on NMR and IR. Out of the 30 questions, I got about 23-24 right. On topscore, I got 17, 15, 17.
RC: Use the Kaplan CD from the bluebook. This will test you much harder than the Topscore. But, overall, I think the topscore does a good job with this. I basically just read the questions and skimmed for the answers. There were a few toughies mixed in there, but after a few minutes, you could come to some sort of answer. Out of the 50 questions, I think I got about 45 correct. My topscore results: 21, 21, 20. On the Kaplan CD, I got 19.
QR: Last year when I took it, I got a 21, so I dropped a point this time around. Im really surprised. While I was taking this section, I didnt think I missed more than 3 or 4. I guess I was way off. Im not really sure what I missed, I even went back and checked a bunch of times. Oh well, not a big deal. On topscore, I was getting 21 and 20's, so it is pretty accurate.
PAT: My score didnt drop too much from Topscore. This section is basically a crapshoot for me. The angles werent as bad as I had thought. I took the test last year and I remember the angles being much worse. Just practice with topscore and kaplan. Thats really all you can do. On topscore, I got 21, didnt take test 2, and 19 on TS3.
If you guys want to know more, just let me know...either PM or post it here.
As for my situation, last year when I took the DAT, I got 19 AA, 17 TS, 18 PAT. I got 2 interviews and just ended up getting a waitlist at NYU. Maybe I can get off that waitlist now. We'll see how it plays out. Maybe, just maybe, I may even get to pick between schools 😀 . Aight ladies and gents, Im off to have some fun. Time to never think about DAT again.
