I'm so confused about everything.

I have a really low cum gpa (2.78) but I'm a senior and this first semester, I will probably have a 4.0 and am hoping to get a 4.0 next semester as well -- I just don't really know what to do or if I can get into an SMP...

I'm leaning toward dental, so I'd take the DAT to apply (not the MCAT). I took the DAT a month or so ago and got an AA16, which is pretty awful. But I'm hopeful about taking it again in the future. I was thinking about taking it in mid-March/early April.

Do you think I have a shot at an SMP? 😕

Also, do SMPs look at science gpas? Blah, I'm feeling hopeless.

Haha, I guess it really is hopeless then...

What will your GPA be after two semesters of 4.0? Try to get to a 4.0 if possible. I don't know anything about the dental SMPs, so I can't help you there. What is your BCPM, and have you taken all the pre-requisites?

Hmm not sure what my cum gpa will be...maybe a 3.0/3.1? My BCPM is ridiculous...something like 2.3 or something...but I'm taking 2 science classes now, both of which I have As, and taking 3 next semester...I don't know. It seems hopeless. And yes, I've taken all the pre-requisites.

Your shot at an SMP depends largely on your MCAT (or I guess DAT, in your case). The lower the GPA the higher the score you need. Short answer is yes, you have a shot, especially if you get over a 3.0, or at least you would for medical school SMPs. I have no idea if the requirements for Dental SMPs are significantly different.

By the way, what do you mean when you say you're 'leaning' towards dental. Have you done any shadowing in either Dental or medical?

Yep, I've done shadowing in both for many years -- and volunteering in both as well.
