Hey everyone,

Don't forget you need to register with the NRMP before Nov. 1 to avoid extra charges. Just a friendly reminder. I almost forgot this today and wanted to let y'all know.

G'luck 🙂

Thank you!!

Those charges would be $50, I believe. ERAS should really send a reminder email.

It says it's $50 when registering right now. Are you saying it would be $100 if registering late, or should it be free right now?

Its an EXTRA $50 if you register after Nov 30th. Right now its still only $50.

It's 50$ right now and will be 100$ if you register late, after Oct. 31/Nov.1

As mentioned above, the late reg deadline is Nov 30th, not Nov 1st. From the NRMP site:

November 30, 2009
Applicant registration deadline
Note: Applicants may register after this deadline by paying an additional late registration fee of $50.00 when registering after 11:59 p.m. eastern time.

You can register (for the extra $50) anytime up until ROL's are due in Feb.

oops sorry for the wrong info guys...mods can we change the title to nov.30 instead of nov.1st any way?

Does anybody else hate that this costs $50? I know it's a drop in the bucket, but I'm sick of spending money.

Hah, yep.

I remember my dad (who is not a doctor) trying to wrap his head around this. "So....they don't pay you overtime, they don't pay you during your required orientation, AND they charge $$ so that you have the 'privilege' of finding a job which you MUST accept without a word of protest even though you can't negotiate salary or benefits??!!"

Umm...yes.

To anyone in the non-physician workforce, it does sound a bit silly....

LOL! Our profession is different in many, many ways.

ERAS would not send a reminder about NRMP since they are two separate entities.

NRMP is primarily run by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), in consultation with the AMA, AAMC, and other organizations. A particular specialty may or may not recommend to their graduate medical education programs to use the NRMP for filling their spots. Hence the special matches for things like Child Neuro or Ophtho.

ERAS is run by the Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). The same organization that runs AMCAS and the MCAT (yeah, remember those things?)
