at a very low ranked school be bad coming from a top 15?

I know this might anger some who go to unranked schools, but I, personally, would look at an applicant that did that as only getting better grades because it is easier and not because they shaped up.

For example, I got As at a CC, B-s-C+s at my university, am doing a lot better now, and will be taking a gap year at the cheapest 4-year in my area which is not known for academics, but for being cheap.

Or would it be better to do CC, this university, and a better public 4-year?

How do I edit title?

General consensus is many adcoms are fine if you start you education at a CC and then transfer to a 4 year university as there are many reasons students do this. However, going from a 4 year university, to taking CC courses during the year or summer, is not as it looks like you are avoiding your university. If you are a post bac working full time taking classes when you can, CC is fine.

Honestly, your best bet is to figure out why you are not earning better grades and change your inputs (i.e. study more/more effectively) to get a better output. Remember, grades are one thing, but if you don't learn the material, the MCAT is going to get you.

She's not doing a postbacc at a CC, though. It's another 4-year that just isn't prestigious as the one she graduated from.

OP, I don't think adcoms will care as long as you do a really good job at your postbacc. Are you applying DO with grade replacement?

I'm a little confused. If I'm reading this correctly, you did well at a community college, transferred to a Top 15 where you did not do great (low 3's GPA? how low are we talking?) and now need a post-bacc, and your question is whether you need to go to a well regarded public school vs your local super cheap option...

My .02: The schools that care a lot about undergrad prestige are not schools that are very accessible to applicants with low GPAs/in need of grade repair. The more accessible schools out there are state schools, and they don't care whatsoever about undergrad prestige (see here, public med schools rate undergrad as lowest importance). So you should be fine going to the local super cheap option. What is your state of residency?

No. Just ace it, and MCAT, and you'll be fine.

yes I am. However, I am really shooting for a school in Illinois and our only DO is pretty competitive, though there are some just outside of the state.
