Don't you think it's time medschools start lowering tuition?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Law2Doc,
you're the man with this legal mumbo-jumbo. why didn't you stick with law? you obviously love it. what lured you to medicine?

You have pretty cheap tution. That $9700 doesn't cover one semester at my school. But you also have to take into account the lost opportunity cost. It's not just what school is costing you, but that plus what you could have made using the current training and skills you already have. Now if one has an unmarketable degree then this might be an accurate assessment.

Add about 2000 more dollars to that number above and you'd get Baylor's tuition. I think Mayo has pretty cheap tuition too. But Mayo also has a lot less students and tends to be severely competitive to get into.

Actually a lot of Tx. schools in general tend to be pretty cheap.

. Although the process is somehow supposed to create altruistic doctors.

ha ha ha.. thats a laugh... the system breeds contempt, dishonesty, do anything to get ahead mentality.. havent you ever interacted with doctors on a professional level.. .. let alone altruism.. LOL

the system is an enterprise also.. you have to buy equipment.... subscriptions... usmle... they added another step since i was there.. which costs 1500 i heard..(thats nuts)... licensing professional dues.. when i was a med student i bought 700 dollar worth of opthalmoscope and otoscope which i used maybe like 10 times.. and everyone in the class bought them.. think about those dollars.. 200 times 700 every single year
