There's a copy of the 28th edition of Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary in the hallway for free at work. Is this worth grabbing or is it unused/outdated?

I was under the impression that Netter is the gold standard, but it may be good to have a backup for more pictures/etc?

Why would you ever want such a book, Netters or Taber or Dorland, when you aren't learning that material?

If it's free you might as well take it. Either you end up using it or you don't.

A medical dictionary is a good resource when you want to know the meaning of a medical word. These days, there are online resources and most people are tossing the old hard copies away.

Netter's is an atlas of human anatomy. A medical dictionary covers much more than anatomy.

Because if I get in this cycle, I won't have to buy it later.

I grew up super poor so frugality comes pretty naturally to me.

Point taken! I'll just let it go to the book graveyard in peace. My back thanks you for the lighter load on the commute home!

In med school your school *should* have an online library with subscriptions to several textbooks that students can access for free so you needn't worry about buying books (aside from Step studying resources).

Perfect, thanks for your help!

Sure ... it's fine. I still keep a ten-year old hard copy of Stedman's Medical Dictionary in my bookcase as a reminder to remain appreciative of my lean years as a student (although I'm glad those student days are over for me). 🙂
