Okay I have an odd ball question, be gentle with me.

So at Medical Schools MDs and DOs can be professors, do research etc.

But for undergraduate institutions does this also hold weight? Can an MD or DO be a professor at an undergraduate university and be a professor/lecture? I'm not saying I want to do this, but it is nice having the option to go educate younger minds at any time in fields like biology or biochemistry to try inspiring future physicians and doing medical research at an undergraduate institution (i.e. be a professor).

I never had an MD or DO lecturer in undergrad. I believe they are usually reserved for medical students, or SMP students?

Yes.

One of my former students is now teaching at a CC in the midwest. I don't know if he failed to match, or just got tired of Medicine.

A couple of the adjunct professors in our undergrad are MD. They both are older, and just got tired of medicine.

Anatomy 101 lecture at my undergrad was a retired oral surgeon. I know he’s a dentist but I’m sure physicians would be qualified then too

I used to work for a CC and many job postings had MD/DO as an acceptable educational qualification. I would love to teach anatomy at a CC as an attending

like biology or biochemistry

Something like anatomy is common, or I’ve heard of basic pharm, patho, etc. I am having a hard time seeing a MD/DO teaching Biochem or Bio without having a PhD in those subjects.

There was a retired OBGYN at the CC i got my nursing degree from. He taught pathophysiology an anatomy.

I'm sure you could teach anywhere you wanted. Just in health sciences.

Anat/phys professor in undergrad was semi-retired ophthalmologist, and microbiology professor was a relatively young MD/PhD who didn’t enjoy clinical practice. Both great teachers!

My cell physiology professor was an MD. I had another MD professor as well but I don't remember the class.

At my school, we have two MD lecturers, one DVM/PhD, and a DDS. All four are just lecturers and do not have labs.

We might have some more I’m not aware of and haven’t listed.

Additionally, I’ve heard of some friends that had MDs as their high school biology teachers; it was their retirement.

Talk about a massive pay cut

My Microbiology & Immunology professor in undergrad was MD.

That's actually very good job security if you think about it. My professor in neuro was an MD/PHD who also practiced at the local hospital as a neurologist. One can only dream ...

I had a retired MD teaching my undergraduate physics 1 lab. Talk about liking to punish yourself.

My anatomy professor at CC was an ER MD..coolest guy ever. I was going to get a LOR from him but he became terminally ill 🙁

I have always wondered the do profs in some schools "with limited research" like what they do with their professorship.

Do they only teach and then for the rest of their time they do their clinical jobs, with no research at all?

My dad is a med prof. He runs both clinical trials and a basic science lab with rats and flies so I am quite familiar with the focus on research in medical academia. I have always wondered what's those DO profs' academic interests pursuing professorship without research.

The graduate school chair of public health department in my former home state's school was a MD, MPH. He taught around 3 classes a semester. He was a beast!
