I'm attending a small liberal arts school majoring in Biology starting this fall in hopes of going to Med School. I wanted to add Biotechnology because I feel like I would be able to find more jobs just in case my path of going to Med School falls through.

I would just major in Biotechnology and minor in Biology but I really like the classes of the Biology major (use of the cadaver lab 🙂 ) and there is no Biotech minor.

Do you guys think it's pointless in double majoring in these two areas because they're so similar? Has anyone had any experience in double majoring in these two areas?

I'm also in the honors program so my coursework would be a little harder than normal.

I was considering minoring in Chemistry but I feel like my GPA would take a hit. I also looked into minoring in Sports Management or Spanish but feel like Medical School admissions won't really care about either of those.

Please help me out! I want to get into Med School!

I did microbiology and biotechnology. The latter will help if I ever need a back-up plan or want to do research. It got me my gap year job. Biotechnology, programming, bioinformatics pays much more than regular biology. People need computer skills to handle huge volumes of data. The overlap made me perform stronger and my GPA went up considerably.

If you are planning on medicine double majoring is pointless regardless of what fields they are. Med school don't care.

Law2Doc is right.

Pointless. Pick one and do all your medical school pre-reqs and get good grades.
