I was curious about something. I'm a sophomore chemistry major right now (BS). I have two options:
1) pursue a BS/MS in chemistry so that I finish my undergraduate career with a masters in chem
2) pursue a double major in art history, which interests me.

I don't have time to do both.
BS/MS in chem or double major in Art history and chemistry?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are interested in Art History do that. You have the rest of your life to do science.

for med school specifically, i would choose the double major. they love diversity and having these two is a great combo. also, many people go for their masters to improve their GPA. so if you're sure about med school I would do the double major, if you REALLY want to do it. or you could enjoy life and take the art major and still get into a great med school! 🙂

I wouldn't mind pursuing the art history degree, yet i'm sure about med school. Here's the way i see it:

BS/MS=a masters in chem. they would probably like seeing a masters degree. experience, maturity, that sort of thing. since both a masters and an MD is a level up from a bachelors, im sure that having a masters would be met with a type of respect that most applicants wouldn't have.
problem is that it's a bit too focused on the sciences

double major with chem and art history=diversity as a student.

Actually, I'm fine in doing either. I am interested in so many different things (philosophy, art history, english, mathematics, computers, etc) that a masters in chem or a double major in art history really wouldn't bug me so much since the only way to really satisfy my desire for knowledge would be to read an awful lot (although the argument could be made that learning in a college setting, or with structure, is a little different, especially when phd's are involved as instructors).

overall, I'm just not sure as to which one outweighs the other

Do what you love.

Life is short and time is limited. Either option would look great and frankly it would be equally impressive if you had one major and spent your time doing a bunch of things that interested you. (I came in to college an English and Ecology major and am leaving a Math and Molecular biology major--which I like better--so believe me this is stuff I've thought about.)

If what you're really asking is what would look best on an application I think personally that admissions officers are most impressed by people with passion. So whatever you decide make it what you enjoy.

Has anyone been in my shoes and found one path better than the other?
As much advice and opinions on the matter would be appreciated
