Do all the schools require a down payment on admissions this early to save a seat. I have one acceptance so far (DMU). The school requires a $500 nonrefundable down payment to save a seat, due Dec 15th. The problem is I haven't heard from several other schools, schools I would rather go to. So I will possibly be throwing $500 down the drain if I get an acceptance to my number one choice. It is probably a small price to pay to guarantee med school next fall, especially with the high cost of the application process I have already paid.
Do all schools do this?

Most schools but not all schools. TCOM does not require a deposit while OSUCOM's deposit is only $100.

I would say send the $500. It may prove unnecessary if you go somewhere else, but in the grand scheme of things $500 isn't going to matter all that much. IMO, it's a worthwhile investment.

Plus, as far as deposits go, $500 really isn't that steep. I paid $1500 for LECOM, and as stated above, some other schools are even higher.

Yeah, $500 is pretty low compared to most other schools. I'd pay the deposit unless you're either really sure you are going to get in somewhere else or if having to apply next year and waisting all the time and money you have spent so far wouldn't be that big of a deal to you. Also, it is better termed as a "deposit" rather than a "down payment" since some schools just pocket that money and don't even put it toward your tuition payment. Not sure what DMU does though.
