The school that I am currently looking at has graduates making 60k - 80k right out of college. I figure I am somewhat around the average student, maybe a little more studious. Soo, if I start off with around 72k a year, when will my salary start to peak off? 100k? I have looked at jobs around my area (careerbuilder) and some places do offer base salaries as 100k but I am not sure if it would be likely to get any higher...

Just out of curiosity what information gave you those figures for the graduates of the school you are referring too? As far as finding 100k jobs on career builder, I hate to be pessimistic but those were most likely job advertisements from staffing companies who inflate the salary to attract people. The staffing companies also make a commission of that 100k. Just understand that what you are payed as a PT all depends on how much you can bill for the business and right now insurance companies are really giving this profession a hard time.

In the outpatient ortho setting, I'd think you could make the low end of that range, but i've never seen a new grad get 80.

I am sure you will be able to get offers of 60 to maybe 70 as a new grad but I wouldn't think much more than that as a new grad. What your salary will peak off at will depend on a lot of factors. If you remain just a staff Physical Therapist then you will peak off at a lot less then if you were to move into a management position, and even more if you become a partial owner, and even more if you eventually have your own practice.

Home care actually pays very well. I knew someone pulling in ~120, working 50 or so hours/wk and moving up into management. His wife got great benefits so his company didn't need to offer him those.

It really depends on where you're willing to work. Like Freddy said, home health pays well. I posted an outpatient ortho job offer on here several months back that offered a starting salary of $90k to new grads with great benefits and tuition reimbursement. I looked into it further and it was legit and it was NOT a staffing company. However, it was in Laredo, TX (on the border) with a mostly Spanish-speaking patient population, in a pretty dangerous city in the middle of nowhere. But if you have loans to pay off and nothing tying you down, it's not a bad option. Obviously, the more kush jobs in the more kush areas are going to pay on the lower end. In my city, that means about $60k starting out.
