DPT or OTD Student Blogs - What is life like in school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thanks for posting that blog. its really helpful for someone like me who is about to start all the pre-reqs for DPT.

i am beginning my pre-reqs now and i am completely overwhelmed by the amount of classes i need to take and the time its going to take me, since i have to work and can only take 2 classes a semester.
on top of the PT pre-reqs, i am finding that there are alot of pre-reqs to those pre-reqs! (mainly math, and intro to science classes) omg, this is starting to seem like a very untouchable goal.

but reading student blogs helps to remind me of what im after... so thanks again.

Not sure if there's a newer thread re: student PT blogs in this forum (saw a list also posted by Elbrus in 2008), but found this blog quite interesting:

If folks have run into more blogs in the past few years, please share!!

I'm considering going back to school to become a PT and will be starting pre-reqs this spring. Since I have to continue working full-time while completing the pre-reqs, though, it'll be a while before I have time to get out there and do any volunteering or observation. So for the time being I've been looking for first-hand accounts of what it's like in the PT trenches.

Thanks 🙂

I considered starting a blog when I started school!

Also-- when I went to start my pre-requisites I felt like I would NEVER get to where I needed to go, and guess what I've been accepted (to more than one school) and will start this fall!

If this makes you feel better-- here is a copy of my to-do list 😉

edit: This was my life from July 2009-August 2010. Plus 2 more GRE go-arounds in Sept & Oct.
So, it took awhile... and it definitely was overwhelming at times and I wanted to quit because it seemed like my bucket list kept growing instead of shrinking, but just when I was about ready to submit my application on PTCAS I wrote down everything I accomplished/needed to do to be an official "applicant" for the 2011 cycle, and I felt a lot better seeing how many things I checked off! 😉

I am glad to see this kind of stuff. It begins to put this whole "process" into perspective. Please share more stories like this! Markelmarcel, that is a pretty extensive "to-do" list. Just let's you know that nothing is truly impossible! Congrats to you and best of luck at Chatham(I believe)!

It is all such an overwhelming process, but so great to see what we are all working towards! Thanks for posting your 'to-do' list and telling the rest of us pre-PT students that there is a light at the end of the tunnel! All of this is getting me very excited and making me want to focus more and work harder!

Sure thing! (Maybe I should've put a disclaimer as it took me June 2009-Sept 2010 to complete all that!)

Not impossible, but it can be very overwhelming... Thanks! 🙂 Good luck to you too!!!

I do blog, and sometimes it's about life in PT school. (It's not about PT school everyday though, just a warning)

A recent post about receiving my placement for my year-long and final clinical placement that I start in April:

If anyone is wondering about anything in particular, I would be more than happy to write a post about pretty much anything relating to PT school and the journey there. Just let me know!

I blog about life after PT school! PT school is a "special" place and it's awesome to find community with peers to commiserate about the experience, ha. 🙂 If any one has a topic in mind for things after school or getting ready to enter the real world, let me know!

I've been blogging about life after school, too... although I find myself just as busy with real life as I did during school, so my posts are far and few in between lol. I'll add you as a blogger friend, khakipants!

Thanks! what's your blog? My blog is in my signature

is there a link to these blogs somewhere?
My blog is in my signature. During PT school, my school started a financial series to help student better understand finances and student loans. We are all bright, driven professionals but a lot of PT (and other health care students) don't know a lot about money. So I drew a lot of inspiration from that and a part of my blog is about the finance/student loan/blah blah blah of life as a professional with student loan debt.

Also, Regis has a great student PT blog. You can find it on their website

I am seriously considering starting a blog. I will be entering my first year of PT school soon and I feel like there's not enough information out there that gives a good sense for what it's really like in PT school.

I just don't know what to call it yet.

Well, that's lame! Yes, that is my blog-- classroom to clinic... What's weird is it shows up in my signature on my computer. Who knows! If anyone else is out there, let us know! 🙂

Any bloggers out there documenting on what life is like on the inside?? There seem to be quite a few pre-PT or new PT students on this forum who may find this useful. Have a good one? Please share! Here is an example of one I just stumbled across: http://www.regis.edu/rh.asp?page=journals.dptbio.arc
Imagine sitting in the DMV for 30-40 hours a week for 2.5 years. Then, when your name is called, you have to pay some guy so you can do his job for him. That is PT school.

It's probably because we're way too busy to keep a blog (I just come on SDN when I'm procrastinating studying) :writer:
Here's what you can call PT school:

My signature shows up on some posts, but not others. I have no idea why!

That video was great! I think the "what should we call PT school" used to be a lot better than it is now...but still funny.

I created a GIF "day in the life" on my blog. It's so easy to make fun of PT and PT school.

I just wanted to add my blog on here! I recently got in to DPT school, so I will be posting about my experiences leading up to school and going through school! I will also be posting advice on the application process etc.

here is the link to my blog:
