I am currently a senior undergraduate student at Quinnipiac University in the Health Science Studies program. I am looking towards applying to DPT programs this Fall and hope to start my graduate education next year. I am currently in the process of looking for graduate programs in the Northeast since I want to stay in the region for graduate school. My major problem with applying to graduate schools is my undergraduate GPA. I currently have a 3.06 and hope to graduate with a GPA around a 3.17, which I know is quite low for most programs. I was wondering if there are specific programs in the Northeast that accept students with lower GPAs since the APTA site stated the average accepted undergraduate GPA was around a 3.47. If anyone could provide some programs that I would have a better chance to get into I'd really appreciate it since it could help narrow down my search. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Apply to Touro, both Campuses.
remember, those with lower GPAs can't be picky, I know.

I disagree with jbizzle's response. Of course applying to DPT school is competitive. There's no question there. However, that does not only mean GPA. The 3.5ish average that most school's mention is just that, an AVERAGE. All school's take lower and higher GPA's as well.

With a lower GPA you have to apply to more schools to increase your chances. You'll also want to have great clinical experience, stellar letter's of recommendation and a rock solid personal statement. I'm at one of the best programs in the country and only had a 3.2ish GPA and am doing extremely well in the program at that! You just have to apply to a lot of schools and wait for the one that will look at you as more than a number.

Don't give up hope.

I got into LIU, UNE, SUNY Downstate, and Sacred Heart with a 3.08 (although my prerequisite GPA was higher). I don't know if these are "top schools", but when I interviewed I did feel confident that I would have received a quality education from any of them. It's important to remember that getting into school is not all about GPA. Schools also consider your references, GRE scores, essays, who you are as a person, and how ready you are for a DPT program. Don't just apply to places that you think you can get into, apply to places that you want to go to as well, you never know what will happen.... Good Luck 🙂
