During the 3 years of a DPT program, what % of students' time (ballpark) is occupied by class, studying, and other elements of the program?

I'm wondering b/c I very much want to become a DPT, but at the same time I want to marry my GF and have a baby.. she would be ~34 by the time I finish the DPT program, and we don't want to wait that long! 😍

Don't wait. If she is willing to put up with no money and the student lifestyle for 3 years, go for it. If she is hesitating, wait. It is more about her than it is about you...really.

I am in the same situation, albeit younger.

My wife and I are in a similar situation. We are trying to plan/wait to have children until I am complete with at least my first semester. I've heard the Anatomy portion of the first semester is very intense in most schools and I know I wouldn't be able to focus properly with a newborn.. but by no means will we wait another 3 years!! I think it can be done (many people get through school with a wife and kiddies).. it won't be easy, but those three years will be over before you know it 😀

I'm not in a DPT program currently but I can say that the education will not be baby friendly. The demands of raising a new born along with meeting the demands of school is going to be tough. I highly recommend waiting. From what I hear PT school is going to take up a chunk of your time. It'll be tough enough on the relationship let alone a child demanding attention. I'd wait.

PT school is time consuming, but so is having a job. You're going to be "busy" for the rest of your life. Assuming you want marriage before baby, go ahead and get married and then see how things look after that. The engagement, wedding, trying to make a baby process could easily take nearly 3 years, or more! If you were the woman though, my thoughts would be a little different.

I would say it depends since everyone is different, but it will occupy all of your time. It is pretty much like working a full-time job, but with the addition of studying outside the class. It also depends what program you are in. Some semesters you might get Fridays off or get out of class early. I wouldn't recommend having children. There was a woman in my class that had a child several months before and she left the program because of this.

I have mentioned this before in similar thread: A fellow classmate of mine has a wife and 5 kids under the age of 12 and is doing very well in school - also TAing to help offset costs. I've said this before, but be a good steward of your time and money, and you can make the best of any situation. Obviously know your own limitations, but don't listen to the naysayers...there will always be a reason why you shouldn't...
