I'm just curious to find out the various dress codes and computer requirements for the different schools. So far, for clothing I have seen scrubs and slacks/shirt, and for computer requirements I've heard the options of being able to chose your computer or having to purchase a specific model through the school. Which schools have which options?

Most schools I've interviewed do not give you an option about the computer thing. The dress code is business casual at most.

San Antonio -- you can wear casual clothes first year except in gross lab and dental anatomy, and if you have a rotation. Most of the time you get to wear casual clothes 3 times a week. Second year you have to wear scrubs 3 days a week (when we have preclinic) and when you have rotations. It sometimes works out when you have to wear scrubs every day of the week. Third and fourth year you have to wear scrubs in the clinic which is every day, whether it is full day of clinic or half day of clinic with class.

As a first year you are given the option of a Dell Latitude laptop or a MacBook Pro laptop, which has to be ordered through the school.

Creighton is dress shirt with neck tie, for guys. The ladies it's the female equalivent, dressy. Everyday.

I know Indiana has a selection of PCs one has to purchase and they load specifics on...

Buffalo is scrubs or business casual (i think) and you get a loaded macbook pro when you go there.

Pacific is business casual always, and you get a specific dell.

Louisville I don't know the dress code but you buy whatever computer you want, there's no specific one.

New Jersey: each class wears color-coded scrubs (class of 2013 gets to be powder blue, from what I gather you wear the same color scrubs all 4 years). You must buy the laptop they designate.

The Dell thing may go away since the entire school is going paperless and they're putting workstations in every operatory. That's just speculation though.

That'd be great if it's true because I'd hate to have to switch back to windows if I end up going there, lol. Minor thing but I like having the option.

Why the hate for windows?

At USC it's either professional attire or scrubs.... 99% of students wear scrubs.

Laptops are recommended, however with the whole setup of PBL and all the work we do on the computer throughout the day, its basically required.

Why the hate for windows?

Because Mac >>>>>>>>>>> Windows.

This is a big factor for me and I would seriously choose a school that gave me a choice over one that forced me to buy a dell.

+ you can run windows on Macbooks so I don't see why all schools don't just give you macbook pros...

Why the hate for windows?

I don't *hate* windows, I just like using my mac more and would rather not be forced to switch back. It's also something that will factor into my decision if it comes down to it. A school with options > a school that forces me to buy something I don't want to use and that will cause more hassle in the long run.

MWU gives you the choice on computer (they give you the required specs but you can buy any computer that has the capability) but the faculty have macs and the campus has PC's. its weird that way, but either is fine. you can wear scrubs or buisness but why you would not want to wear scrubs i don't know.

agreed 🙂 😍 love my mac

theres a sticky in the "dental" forum that can answer a TON of questions about most schools.

SB's dress code is whatever you want for classes (sweats, jeans, casual) and scrubs in the clinic. each year votes on a color, and it could be anything as long as it's not already in use. usually a shade of blue is chosen.

as for the computer, we are given a list of specs to follow and we can get whatever computer we want from there. i have a tablet, and it's pretty helpful since i'm not scurrying around trying to print everything everyday.

Anyone know PENN's clothing and comp requirements?

At UAB its your class's specific scrub color or business casual unless you're in clinic where its scrubs only. Required to buy a specific model of Dell although I think that Macs may be allowed in the near future as many of the faculty use Macs and the dental school has a certified Mac guy on staff. But that's just speculation on my part.

Here at Case, we have to get their required HP tablet PC. As for the dress code, we were in business casual for the first few weeks until we got our embroidered scrubs! Each year votes on which colour the class wants

Case=scrubs all day every day. Each class has a color and we got to vote on ours.
As for computers we all got HP tablet laptops...the tablet is really cool but the computers themselves are only ok. A lot of classmates (myself included) have had numerous problems with them already. We didn't get a choice we had to get them.

We at NOVA have to wear a specific color green (hunter green) and each year it changes according to class year. As for computers we are forced to buy a package deal that this year was a Dell tablet labtop, and your books (vital source). Glad to hear that it isn't just Dell that has problems with the tablets, our computers have had tons of problems, and they are extremely slow, because someone thought it would be best to have more battery life and less power, are you really helping anything if the computer runs like crap?

As far as the other two Texas schools (Baylor and Houston), Baylor doesn't require a certain computer but leases a Dell Latitude to you first year for histology. Dress there is scrubs of your choice. Houston requires you wear their pale green scrubs but does not have any computer requirement.

At UNLV you wear scrubs and each year is a different color. They require you to buy a Dell laptop.
