what the ecks is so funny?!

For some reason the word "fink" just really got me laughing. I've been in that kind of mood all day though. 😛

At DCOM, our dress code is very relaxed. When wearing short-sleeves, guys have to have a collared shirt, but we can still wear jeans, shorts, gym shoes, etc. No flip-flops or hoodies. You can wear any kind of sweater, as long as it is not ripped, torn, stained, or just nasty looking. Women do not have to wear collars, just presentable clothing. We are not allowed to wear scrubs to class, except for anatomy lab. Now, I know that many of you think wearing scrubs should be allowed, its like a right of passage. But do you really want someone sitting next to you wearing the same scrubs they wear to lab that haven't been washed in weeks??? I know I don't, so that rule doesn't bother me, and I don't think it bothers at school either. After 4:30 pm, you can wear whatever you want - PJ's and all.

At first, people were complaining about the dress code, but you don't hear too much anymore b/c it really isn't too bad compared to, say LECOM (no offense, you are just being used as an example). Of course you have the random people hear and there b/c there are always those who need to complain about something. Besides, after awhile, you want to look nice b/c you are entering a professional field and dressing that way should start at some point. Its kinda funny b/c the nursing school at our university is on the 3rd floor of the med school building and they don't have a dress code (why, I don't know but hopefully that will change soon). You can ALWAYS tell who the med students are and who the nursing students are b/c the nursing students look like they just rolled out of bed. They are wearing sponge bob pajama pants and flip-flops and, basically, look like crap.

I typically wear jeans, gym shoes, and whatever shirt the weather calls for each day. I am extremely comfortable and have no complaints about it.

well thanks doc.

the point you bring up about wearing old scrubs. I went to public school for about 12 years and private school for idk maybe 6, does that add up idk. The point is, people with poor hygeine smelled like skank with or with out a dress code, making someone look a special way doesn't do anything for their hygeine. in fact, what if i bought one pair of pants and one shirt to wear everyday. then what.

We had a student take a medical leave for this year and will be part of next year's class. I would contact the school to find out what the procedures are, but I am sure it can be done anywhere.

There is no dress code at DMU. Jeans and t shirt, hoodies, sweat pants are all fine.

msucom... none.

VCOM has a dress code. I guess I would describe it as business causal. No jeans or T-shirts are allowed. Personally I didnt mind it. It was a good way for the clubs to make money. They would have fundraisers where you could pay $2 and get to wear jeans for the day and the clubs got the money.

RVU has one too. It's business casual. I think it's actually cool to have everyone looking classy and professional.
Of course, OMM lab is shorts and t-shirts/sports bras.
After hours to study, you can wear more comfortable attire while on campus.

At some schools, you have to dress up to go to the library and anatomy lab!

Everyone has an opinion about dress codes and guess what...they are ALL valid.

The point here is that if the dress code at a particular school is a deal breaker for you, then DON"T GO TO THAT SCHOOL. Especially don't go to that school then come to SDN and complain about the dress code for four years. 🙄

Everyone's got an issue with something at some school. The same advice goes for any issue - don't go to school in Iowa then complain that there are no big cities around. Don't go to a school with mandatory attendance then complain when you are expected to show up for class. etc.

Caveat emptor!

I've never gotten the appeal of wearing pajamas to school/work.

I worked for years before coming back to MS, so it's not a big deal to me to HAVE to wear something other than a scrubby T-shirt at a bare minimum.

Now, being required to wear a tie, or a suit every day would completely suck.

As far as I know, as long as I don't show up in a ratty T-shirt or a pair of jeans that are full of holes, I'm fine. Apparently, shorts are well within the guidelines...and after seeing the nurses show up in their pajamas and looking like crap...I can't say I'm sad that this "dress code" is in effect.

ok, i dont mean to be the b*itch here but i always hear ppl who go to schools with a dress code say "i dont mind having to dress business cuz im going into a professional field... gonna be a doctor blah blah blah"
Thats exactly what i hear the schools saying when the try to sell it hahaha !
I dont care either way but im not down for dress codes. Ill dress nice everyday anyway but im not 6 years old and if i feel ****ty one day and wanna wear some cute sweats it really should be my decision. When i went to lecoms interview and they said theyre tryin to prepare you for the professional world. It just pissed me off... i felt underestimated. Did they really think i didnt know how to dress!?!? Like this was the first time in my life that i had to look professional?!?!
ANywyas... my point is that dress codes in things like library and lectures should be a non-issue. I mean if you look homeless then maybe some intervention is needed otherwise they shouldnt interfere. Im glad DMU doesnt ahve a dress code! 😀

Haha! I agree! Since when do we have to practice dressing the way we will for our job? When the day comes that we need to look professional, I'm sure we can all do it! I'm glad AZCOM does not have a dress code... especially when the weather is hot, its nice to wear something comfortable!

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, it's -all- the same to me
The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil,
Going with the flow, it's all a game to me,
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you,
Double up or quit, double stake or split,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby,
I don't wanna live for ever,
And don't forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you've got to see me,
Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again,
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die,
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Motorhead. Ace of Spades.

Kicks ass. I don't know why I picked it. I'm listening to them now so that must be why.

Thank you. One sane voice amoung the brainwashed masses.

No, you can't go to medical school naked. Not even at osteopathic ones. Sorry, hippie.

I don't mind a dress code. I dont particularly like it when people come into class wearing pajamas, it makes me tired just looking at them.

I also think it makes you wake up a little bit atleast your not literally rolling out of bed.

I know people like dress codes. In my opinion, if you like what you wear with a dress code, you could wear the same thing without one. If there is no dress code, it gives those the option who do not like it to wear something else. That way everyone is comfortable.... and someone said that it wakes you up a bit so your not "literally rolling out of bed"... personally, I take every last bit of sleep I can get. That is what gets me through the day, not getting up earlier then necessary to get ready. To each their own and for me, living as close to campus as possible and literally rolling out of bed to class will be what gets me through the day awake and rested.
