Hey Everyone,
So I finally got around to posting my first real thread. I just graduated from Penn this year with a degree in biology and a neuroscience concentration. I made a switch from physics/astrophysics to biology starting junior year. My grades back when I was in physics were horrendous though, 2.0 freshman year, 2.6 sophomore year. I came out of an easy highschool I had never had to work in, and my invitation to the Penn honors program only made me think I could take courses I wasn't qualified for and still not have to work. So I began pulling it together and my gpa for my second two years is a 3.1, with a final semester of all science classes in which I was able to pull off a 3.3, but my cum is still a 2.8 because of the first two years. I was able to squeeze all the premed reqs in except orgo lab.

So right now I'm wavering between two paths. I'm applying now to Penn's special science program for the fall, in which I'd just take another year and a half of undergrad classes there to pull up my gpa. The director said I could take the orgo lab as one of the classes.

My other option is to take orgo lab next sem at Penn along with maybe a couple other classes, then take the mcat (I know, I know, I need to do really well) and apply to the Drexel IMS for the following year (or maybe even later depending on whether I keep my research position). I'm having trouble deciding which I'd rather follow though. On one hand Penn is the better school and is more familiar since I just graduated, and am still doing research work there (I do have alot of good research experience there). But it will just be more undergrad classes. Drexel isn't as good of a school but their program courses are more like those in medical school, and on top of that you get the interview with them if you get at least B's in their classes (I know it's not easy).

If I end up not getting into either I think I'll then go for the Harvard extension.

So what are your views? And thanks for reading the life story 🙂

I forgot to add that time and money aren't an issue. So even if it took me 5 years to get in I'd be fine with that. I'll do anything.
