I have been accepted to both Drexel's MSP and Penn's Special Science programs. I am having a hard time trying to determine which program is the best for me. Here are my stats:

MCAT 21
Science GPA 2.86
GPA 3.1

I definitely need to improve my MCAT score and I feel that a structered program like Drexels MSP would be ideal. However, I also have to improve my undergraduate GPA. In that case, PENN would be the better option. I have been out of school for over ten years, so the MSP would really help me get the high MCAT score that I need especially with all the MCAT review courses.

The question is, which program would benefit me more in the long run assuming I excel at both? Once I finish the MSP program I can go on to the IMS and receive a Masters in Medicine. However, this won't improve my undergrad GPA in any way. My other option would be to attend a program like Penn first and then apply to an SMP later on, but I really can't afford the time or the money. Also, does one program have a better reputation over another, or are the two not comparable? Please help...any input would be great!

hey..i was just curious i thought the special sciences needed a 27 or higher on the mcat? in that case what was ure SAT score if u dont mind me asking (im actually waitlisted at the penn..and its my top choice program and id really love to attend..so i was wondering if u could give me some pointers on ure credentials)..thanks!

The MCAT score that I listed is actually from 6 years ago. I did not include it when I applied to Penn because it was no longer valid. I submitted my GRE scores instead, which I took last year and got a 1350. Hope that clarifies the discrepency.

Just curious aby why Penn over the other schools?

As far as my credentials are concerned, I have been a research scientist for 7 years and have published a number of papers, and have volunteered with a ton of different organizations.

hey thanks for your credentials..that definitely makes sense! but damn you definitely have a stellar background..im interested in penn because of the linkage it offers..i think taking ugrad courses (despite the name or prestige of the school) may not outweigh courses taken at a graduate or SMP level..but maybe it wouldn't be TOO bad since it boosts your ugrad gpa which is of most importance..thing is i have a decent mcat score i just need a good gpa and and i think penn having a great curriculum with great professors, the name, and most importantly all the clinical opportunities in philadelphia (hospitals like the university hospital, temple, mcp hannehman, etc) and community work, it would most definitely enhance my background for application this year..and finally, if not...then i still have a shot through the linkages, assuming I work very hard in the program. thast why penn is really my top choice and im hoping i get in.
