I did not get a single interview with my 3.26 GPA with my science very similar and my 10, 10, 10 MCAT. In my defense I worked 32-40 hours per week during college. I have done organic chemistry research, worked at a level I trauma center, did clinical research, taught a tab, tutored, worked and interned at a coroner's office, and recently got my EMT. I start volunteering under the scope of EMT-I pratice at a county clinic this week. I have also taken two classes since I applied and got a 3.7 GPA. I have been looking and got accepted into the MS in Clinical Research offered online from Drexel to raise my GPA and I am wondering if I should do this or a SMP? If worst comes to worst I rather go abroad for MD than stay in the US for DO.

Thanks!

30K + for an online degree? Is this common? If so, I need to buy some stock in the University of Phoenix.

My advice would be to raise your GPA as cheaply as possible. The rest of you app looks soild. If you have cheap in-state colleges, I would look there...

That Drexel degree isn't going to increase your competitiveness for medical school. Your uGPA is killing you and the only way you can do something about it is post bacc or SMP. If you do the SMP route, be prepared to work only on your studies. These programs are expensive and a poor performance will put you deep into debt with no medical school acceptance.

Your may want to investigate attending osteopathic medical school because you are a long way from being competitive for the allopathic schools unless you ace an SMP (no easy task under the best of circumstances). Going offshore is a very poor option as you will have difficulty getting back into this country to practice even with US citizenship. If you looked as the match numbers this year, offshore was dismal.

Your GPA is adequate.

Your MCAT is fine.

Job shadow a DO and if you like it, consider the DO route to becoming a physician.

the MS in clinical research would be nothing more than a cool EC. ECs start to matter AFTER your numbers are screened. as has been mentioned already, fix your uGPA. informal post bacc sounds good. don't do an SMP, too expensive and won't really fix the uGPA.

If worst comes to worst I rather go abroad for MD than stay in the US for DO.

There are successful doctors that have done Abroad/carribean MD, US MD, and DO. That said, you should seriously consider DO over going abroad. It is a much better route to becoming a physician. It's easier to get good training and residencies, and the quality of education is more uniform (in a good way).
