Driving vs. Flying

I'm doing an externship at a school that is about 12 hours away from my home school... It's in a bigger city that I'm really excited to see, but I'm not sure if I should drive? Is it worth it to have your car? I'm staying in the school housing that's walking distance to work so that's not an issue... But 12 hours means I basically lose a day on either side of the drive, and I have to be back here for my next rotation the Monday afterwards. Should I drive or fly??

No way we can answer that without knowing where the externship is...

If in NYC, Philly, Boston, DC = fly and use public transportation to get around
If in most other places = drive so you can have a life on weekends that you're off and see the area. Afterall, I doubt the externship is making you work every day and if this is a town you're considering living in for residency, you should see it and the surrounding area!

Of course, all this assumes you have a safe car, are used to driving long distances (12 hour drive is safest done in two, not one day) and know how to change a flat tire!

It's in a medium sized city, but there is a lot that is 1-2 hours away that I want to go visit... I think I'm probably going to drive, because it's somewhere that I'm definitely considering!!
