Dropped out of an MD program as MS3, but want to see if my skills can be used during the CoVid-19 crisis. I can relocate anywhere in the US.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

During MS3, I dropped out of an MD program for personal reasons that are no longer an issue. While I'm not interested in finishing medical school right now, I wondered if because of the CoVid-19 Crisis, I could be put to use somewhere help is direly needed. I completed rotations in internal medicine and family medicine, and passed Step 1.

I've read numerous news reports of IMGs, MS3/4s, and retired HCPs being tapped to help out during these challenging times. Does anyone here have any idea who I could reach out to in order to offer and help with the medical knowledge and skills I do have (who to contact at hospitals, departments of health, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for your input and/or advice.

I don't know the specifics but this may or may not offer you a lead.. got this message this morning.

You might get in touch with your nearest medical school. My class has been passing around emails with volunteering/roles appropriate for med students. Someone can probably tell you what other current MS3s are doing and you can try to join in with them. For my school it's not actually clinical work for the most part, it's stuff like manning the COVID phone hotlines or helping in the coordination/logistics center with the surge in numbers.

Lots of the usual community service programs are also in need of volunteers right now. Shelters, meals on wheels, etc.

Your dropout status will probably preclude you.

Hospitals are swamped with multiple choice questions right now so they need all the medical students they can get!

Which patient should receive COVID19 ventilator support, considering ventilator shortage? :
A. Tom Hanks
B. Nineteen year old male with PMH significant for Type I Diabetes
C. Everyone
D. No one
E. Consult hospital ethics committee

Tom Hanks- his recovery would be great PR for the C-suite and his subsequent large donation would enable them to buy more ventilators for other wealthy patients so they can continue to turn a profit.

Clearly not Tom Hanks as he is recovering and doesn’t need it.

The answer is never the ethics committee

I've been doing UWorld for step 3 and one time the answer WAS the ethics committee. I've never felt so betrayed.
Wowwww. Ethics committee must be too difficult for step1. Only ppl taking step 3 can handle the ethics committee
