So when a dental school advisor says that they will take your higher scores (plural) if you have taken the DAT more than 1 time, then are they saying that they will basically replace each of the section scores from old test with the higher ones on new test, or do they mean they will just take only the scores from the better test even if you scored lower in a section than you did the first time? Say like the AA19 of retake and AA17 of old test, but even the AA19 test has lower score in bio than what it was on the AA17 test, what do they do?

Hope that made sense, I just thought about it this afternoon. I've always thought they will just take the test that has higher AA than the other test(s).

Help me out if you understand what i mean please!

It means they take the DAT test that is higher overall. They will not pick and choose sections from each test (I'm not aware of any schools that do this, but there may be some). I'm guessing they use TS or AA to determine which test is "higher".

I think they mean that they will take the one with the highest AA. I'm not sure. also, not all schools take the highest DAT. They either take the most recent, take the highest, or average them out. It's in the ADEA book. 🙂

right, I know that some schools are different when it comes to that, but the specific school I'm talking about said they will take the higher scores (plural), not higher score. So it made me think that they will pick and choose the best scores and combine them into a new set of scores with new avg....maybe thats wishful thinking. lol

I think they said 'scores' because every DAT is a set of scores, not just one number. But I could be wrong. Best to call and ask the school to make sure.

Make sure you specifically find out, because there are institutions that will pick and choose higher scores from multiple attempts. I know that the university of Pittsburgh does this, and I would assume that there are a few others as well.

They get to see all your scores ( if taken within 3 years) and compare how you did in each section for each time you took it especially from your latest DAT! they want to see that you were able to do better and if you did lower in other sections the second time you took the exam, they might ask during interview about it
