I know this is a dumb question, but what is it that actually kills you in DTs? All through MS2 I was under the impression it was the seizures, but apparently you don't really get seizures in DTs... so what is it that makes it so dangerous? Heart failure, I'm guessing
 
Usually it's respiratory depression or arrest, or some sort of arrhythmia. Keep in mind that DTs are the result of the fact that chronic alcohol dependence causes certain neurochemical changes in the brain; if you withdraw that you end up with circulatory collapse.

Less commonly it's secondarily related to aspiration.
