Just thought i'd post this:

stupid me.
at an interview, i was asked how many schools i applied to and i said 8. later that night, i came home and counted 10 ('cause i ended up adding a couple more after submitting my apps to AADSAS but didn't tell the interviewer that part). lol. i read somewhere that you should tell the truth when asked (since school's know where/how many you applied to) and now he probably thinks i lied to him ... argh. i do remember him saying "wow. that's it?".. maybe he meant "wow. you just lied to me."
🙁

ok. blah. who cares. happy saturday!
bye.

It may not be as bad as you think. If you added the schools after your application was sent, then maybe he really only saw that you applied to 8 and was actually surprised you applied to so few schools.

Although I absolutely had no idea what was a point of asking how many and which dental schools applied to, i was asked the same question that you had at the end of my interview. When asked if I applied to any other schools, i said ".....no..." first, and then the interviewer raised her eye brow questioning why i answered that way. I actually applied many schools and did not want to say so. My interviewer then listed names of some dental schools to me and I said that I did apply those schools that my interviewers mentioned. See? I have a worse case than you do. I seriously thought that I'm screwed. 'cause now I realized that interviewers know how many and which schools that I applied to ahead of time. I feel so desparate thinking that it might affect all other dental schools that I applied to. What if all the admission committee come together and talk about my unethical attitude? I am totally screwed. duh. real duh. what do you guys think?

So wait, you lied on purpose, and now you're asking what your chances are of getting caught in your lie? Personally, I feel that if you did lie knowingly you should get caught and I hope you do. The last thing dentistry needs is a dishonest dentist making everyone else look bad.

Dude, you must be so moral and so ethical. May everyone be as holy as thou.

The schools you applied to are not printed on the white copy of your application, which is the one schools receive. I doubt that your answer will make that much of a difference. More than likely the interviewer was not testing your memory recall nor the aptitude of the lie-detector test wired to your seat but was just curious to know how many you were looking at and what schools they'll be contending with when they send your acceptance out to you. Don't sweat the small stuff. 👍

Thanks Utes and Sprgrover.
You know, you guys might be right. My app. was completed with this school early September (rec'd a notice from them) and I added additional schools a a couple weeks into September. In anycase, all i can do is wait now... 🙂

ohhhhdude, don't worry. what's done is done. No point in stressing over it now... just hope for the best. And seeing that you applied to many other schools, I'm sure you won't give 'em that same answer again. good luck to ya. 🙂

Yes, I'm Super Moral Ethical Man, but my friends call me S.M.E.M.! I wear a giant halo on my chest and fight injustice, dishonesty, and hypocrisy wherever they rear their ugly heads.

No seriously dude, think about the people that you respect and want to emulate, would any of those people lie or cheat to get ahead?

It's easy to justify a little lie here and there, but just remember young padawan, it's a slipper slope to the darkside.
I think Yoda said that once.

I think all of you need to take the rod out of your rears. Its just a stupid question. Yea its dumb he lied, but do want to take him to the city circle and hang him? Your probably the most up tight guy on SDN for saying such a stupid comment. Chill out dude.

Gabe

I think everyone on here is uptight.....its a crazy time of year and dentistry attracts the perfectionist.....you can't get much more uptight than that

I don't think they have the list of schools you've applied to or would check into it. I think they ask you how many schools you applied to is to test you whether you are just applying to say 30 schools and just hope to get in vs. a candidate who really thought out their choices and considerations and applying to 5. It also demonstrates your level of confidence...if you think you can get in and are confident, you would've applied to fewer schools. On the other hand, if you applied to 20 schools, they may view that you are not confident on your stats/application material (LOR/DAT/etc).

Do you really think they view that as less confidence......I heard that the average amount of schools people apply to is about 12-15.....with that being said do you think that sending 5-6 LOR's is excessive? To me I think it would show how much you want to get in.....just a question

I've been told different things on this. The way my preprofesional advisor does the committee letter is that he has you get 3 LOR's from teachers and then someone on the committee interviews you and then he writes one committee letter. When he sends the letter to the school though he attaches the other 3 letters to it. His attitude is that it can't hurt for the schools to have more information about you available to them. I talked with another guy who used to be on the admissions committee at Creighton and he said that a big red flag for them was people who didn't follow directions and sent more or less stuff than they were supposed to.
I personally put more faith in what my advisor says.

you would rely on your advisor rather than a past admissions person?

Yeah, the guy was kindof a dink. And he was there a long time ago. You'd understand if you met him.

Don't worry about a thing. This hardly classifies as a lie. 8 vs. 10--> good lord man who cares. Any adcom who would care about that has serious issues--wow. Anyone on this thread who went so far to think this circumstance merits a lecture on morals and ethics--come on. This is a meaningless and trivial mistake that has been blown way out of proportion. It's fun seeing how people think. Peeps are way too serious--haha. OP, you'll be OK.
