I was informed by Duke last week that they were currently making merit scholarship decisions, and notification would go out this week to those lucky souls who receive them.

Not that I think I'll be one of those, but if anyone has received one or knows anything more about when notices go out please post, so I can quit hoping. 😳

I called the finaid office on Friday and was told that we still have "several weeks" to submit our needaccess applications before they make decisions on grants vs. loans...

Are the merit scholarships you're talking about different from grants given out by the finaid office? And do you know if we have to submit all our finaid forms in order to be considered for the merit scholarships?

The scholarships are different than the grant money. The grant money is determined based on financial need and has nothing to do with merit. It is still free money, so the confusion is warranted. I heard that the scholarships go out this week too, but you never really know I guess. Hopefully someone will post when he/she gets one.

Have you guys read about the Duke lacrosse rape scandel? Go here to read about it. How do you think it will affect racial tension at Duke? ... the admissions at Duke, etc?

The Duke Financial Aid office told me that it is separate from the need-based process. It is all handled by the Admissions office and whether you have financial aid forms in or not won't matter.

I guess no one has heard anything yet. I hope some SDN people get some good news whenever the scholarships are announced. :luck:

bump--anything yet? less than a month to may 15th....

I called the admissions office just now, and was told that all merit scholarships have been offered. so there it is...
